SWR Winchfield Timetable Anomaly from 20 September 2026

No harm in asking here, especially as a lot of industry employees view this forum. Yes, though, IF it is the error is seems to be, it should be reported, if not already done.

SWR Winchfield Timetable Anomaly from 20 September 2026

Welcome to the forum. RTT also shows the pattern you describe, so it must surely be a 'planning error' (to use one of RTT's terms!). If so, yet again, does no-one check anything anymore?!

North Downs Line Service Decline - Again

My previous thread on this topic has been closed, so here we go again. Today so far has seen the worst day yet in the recent decline in service on the route, with many trains being cancelled. Things had seemingly settled down again a while back after a dire period of cancellations, but the...

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

I hope the seats make TL journeys "blissful" to quote the blurb from Jonathan Whitehurst, but, as the main change appears to the head area, which requires the least support, I am not confident. The seat base itself looks to be no thicker than now, so it will need to be a magical material that...

    Class 175s to GWR

    Exactly!

    Class 175s to GWR

Costs money. ROSCOs will cut costs to the bone. It would be interesting to know what requirements are placed upon them regarding storage and subsequent suitability for passenger service. Of course as stock becomes ever more 'computer-complex' and thus delicate, longer-term storage becomes...

    Class 175s to GWR

Indeed - the system, not the individuals involved. You can't just store stock for ages and expect not to incur needless costs and delays as a result (and I'm not just referring to the 175s).

    Class 175s to GWR

One of innumerable failures of the privatisation model which saw/sees stock owned by a third party go to poorly-managed storage rather than being transferred in a timely manner to the new operator. Time and time again it has been shown that storing stock is a poor option, yet it continues...

Are temporary speed restrictions (TSRs) no longer required after track renewal work?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/lewes-derailment-thursday-13th-august.305792 I had thought that speed restrictions at track renewal sites were a thing of the past, with modern tamping and packing methodology. I'm sure I have travelled over many sites at line...

Union Jack-style Great British Railways branding at major Glasgow station angers Scottish government officials

Why won't it? Great British Railways should mean exactly that unless or until Scotland gains independence. The nationalisation philosophy should embrace all British main line railways, or the integration currently lacking will not return properly. The Union flag incorporates English...

Sunday morning Basingstoke to Reading stopper

Possibly, but that is only possible for WoE workings.

Sunday morning Basingstoke to Reading stopper

I'm unclear why SWR runs on that route anyway.

Why did the Wickford recovery take longer than Harrow & Wealdstone in 1952?

A point that has been touched on is that methodologies have changed almost out of recognition since 1952 - H&S requirements especially. Recovery is a potentially dangerous process and is undertaken with many more protections and restrictions, and on-site investigations are far more painstaking...

Will Steam Locos Be Able to Flip Around When Cardiff West Junction is Modified?

Brings to mind the incident on the turntable at Garsdale in 1900 (I think) when a loco was sent spinning by strong winds!

Trivia : Are there any stations that have no public exits?

CJ has far from "some limited use" as an entry/exit!

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

That is a good point. However, surely the current system is untenable, or do people actually believe it works OK? BTW, I have never seen any publicity about how first class works on TL - it may have been posted but, if so, it has eluded me. I use the first class, but I would happily see it go...

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

Yes, obviously avoiding the humps but towards the centre such that only one area exists per unit and there is never any doubt whether it is in use. There is also the point that if the seats are made more comfortable throughout, perhaps first class will be redundant (while also recognising that...

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

I had understood from discussions quite a while back that the 'ironing board' seats' thin-ness was required by fire risk requirements - clearly either that was wrong or standards/requirements have changed.
