It does seem like a waste to build a rather expensive bridge or tunnel to Thamesmead only to provide 4tph (or maybe 5tph which has been a rumoured TfL aspiration for the GOBLIN). Whereas with the additional trains arriving in 2025, DLR will run 15tph to Beckton in the peaks.

Terminating the GOBLIN at Barking may still be very necessary at times of c2c or freight disruption (it's a moderately busy area!). I guess it's always good to have a conflict free 'bail out' option when merging with other services where things can go wrong. Like tipping out an Overground train...

They could empty out some trains at Tottenham Court Road (or Bond Street) and run ECS into Paddington. They did this for an hour during the fire alarm on opening day quite effectively.
