Agreed that a lot of newer seats are 'basic and that some TOC's seem to be somewhat unconcerned about passenger comfort. Having experienced a GN 387 CBG-Ely was bad enough.
To me, the root cause of all this is:
1. The country is bursting at the seams and demand for the train is increasing in...
I'd hazard a guess that GE (NRW, IPS, COL) drivers do not sign 379s. The only exception being those that drove the battery 379 that worked the HPQ branch a few years ago. Some of the LST drivers might sign them?
I would (and do) take a 321 over a 360 any day. I wouldn't be too bothered if they hung on to the Renatus 321s for a while.
Not sure about 379s on NRW-LST, I'm not aware of them ever venturing to NRW and suspect the same power issues as 360s?.
Although it will probably be seen as heresey now, 40078 used to crop up with monotonous regularity when spotting on the ECML at Huntingdon in the late 70's. I think it was allocated to York at the time. There was a FP 31- 31173 I think, that also made very (too) regular appearances. Trips to...
A few points I'd like to make;
1 The industry is rubbish at handling the press and public expectations . I would love to see every train running to time but it's just not going to happen. I wish every time I got in the car I knew I would arrive on time, without breaking down or get stuck in...
No.
Simply because of the power that it would give to the Unions. Regardless of which Political Party was in power the Unions or more specifially the Union Leadership and their cronies (with their own agenda) would run the railway and arguably the County.
Personally I'd like to level the playing field by extending delay repay to bus and coach operators.
Any costs caused by roadworks could then be claimed back by the operator from Councils and the Highways Agency.
Agreed, I would love to see more Cops out and about on the Network but in the most part it's down to money and having to prioritise. You're absolutely correct that BTP are spread thinly, especially in the regions. Most policing is prioritised according to Threat-Risk-Harm so anything that...
Yep big concerns within the industry and BTP. I can't see PSoS putting the same priorities on railways that we currently have. Especially with things like railways suicide prevention and post incident clear up. Let alone ASB etc.
There are also noises that Wales may go the same way, which...
Good news for BTP, Rail Staff and Customers. Adds an extra layer of protection to some of our busiest stations and strengthens BTP's case to stay an independent force.
The EMT services always seem pretty well patronised leaving and arriving NRW although how many actually make the full journey I wouldn't know. It' very popular for connections to the ECML being the only direct NRW-PBO service.
I'e always wondered why EMT haven' tried to run into CBG and lose...
Agree about the 0830 NRW- LST. Horrible train avoid whenever possible. I call it the Saga express with many taking advantage of Senior Railcards. Some of the off peak LST- NRW (1530/1600/1630) are getting just as bad.
Truth is the GEML is always going to struggle with capacity with the rate of...
Capacity pure and simple. More people travelling- can't in many cases lengthen the train. People want seats=pack em in.
A compromise has to be made, managing customers expectations is the challenge.
Solution = double decker however the cost would be prohibitive.
To compare train building in...
The point I am making is that the RMT need to tread carefully. By splashing this incident all over the press they have set a precedent and have left the gates wide open for any incident involving a member of traincrew to be released to the press.
