I'm frequently down the South end of the GEML, I've seen all the 59/1 and 59/2 either at Chelmsford, Stratford or locations inbetween. Never seen a 59/0 though.

Quoting DOR East Coast as an example of a successful state run railway is wrong. Running 200-300 trains a day and a dozen stations is one thing, a whole network is another. The cost involved would be huge- harmonisation of wages from TOCs, NWR etc would push the wage bill through the roof...

The crazy thing is that the way towns on the GEML are expanding as more and more people move out of London, the new units will be just as rammed.
