Is this basically because in the absence of signals, there are no position references for the driver?
EDIT: actually thinking about it they can still see signals on the other lines so that can't be the only reason.
Hi all,
I'm on 1R76 , EMR Norwich to Derby. We've had a points failure south of Stoke Tunnel and currently reversing down the East Coast Mainline slow lines, presumably back to the Tallington Crossovers where we can rejoin the mainline and head north again.
I'm just curious, the reversal is...
I bet Lumo can't WAIT to receive these units after absolutely being thrashed. With no disrespect to the engineers that keep them going, I hope they receive a major overhaul before they hit the WCML.
I'm getting "Hull Trains gets Adelantes" vibes from all this.
I'm also not a copyright lawyer, but they're probably not worried about this specific app, they just don't want people to think "Network Rail are cool with copyright infringement". While this app/website itself isn't harmful, you can see that it sets a precedent for others to come along and...
Makes sense I guess, very easy to electrify between Bicester and Bletchley. I don't think EWR have said exactly where they're going to electrify? But that section of route would certainly make sense.
I know this is sheer fantasy but they should move the entire Bletchley Depot there, so they can...
If a Birmingham-Manchester line is decades away, the announcement surely means nothing. Any subsequent government can just cancel it with essentially zero cost like they did with 2a and 2b.
Surely the number of trains the tunnel will support when built is mostly irrelevant - you build infrastructure to support the ambitions you have for the next 10, 25, 50 years.
We need a plan, we need ambitions, we need goals, then you build infrastructure to meet them.
The UK has a large backlog of necessary infrastructure works in the rail sector alone and it's only going to get worse if governments continue to neglect the network and as climate driven extreme weather events get more frequent and more extreme. Work isn't going to dry up any time soon.
I imagine it makes the issues go away insofar as while there's extra pressure on the driver they can at least be getting compensated for it.
I suspect they know the safety case is largely theoretical, it's only incidents like Huntingdon where the presence of extra staff members really shows the...
Thanks!
I know nothing about how the pay structures work here. Naively I would have assumed that if you're a driver for Stagecoach there would be a common pay/benefits grading for everyone (or at most it would be a regional thing) - it surprises me that individual depots can resolve these kinds...
Similarly sized countries to the UK (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan) run very effective high speed networks.
At the risk of re-litigating the arguments for HS2 yet again, I haven't seen any proposals for capacity enhancements that wouldn't cost just as much and be just as disruptive as HS2 (or some...
I think this is my point, regardless of whether the service gets split or not, in my opinion the far more important thing is that both halves have enough capacity to actually provide a decent service.
I don't know about splitting the route but I just got off an absolutely rammed 2-car 158 at Peterborough (from Nottingham). With something in the drivetrain whining horribly throughout the journey for good measure.
I doubt the general public care about through connections as much as having a...
Sure, speed is important too. Especially for the full "Y" network as originally envisaged. It would have shaved journey times massively from Scotland and the North, competing very favourably with air travel. We could have eliminated a big chunk of internal flights in the UK.
Release of classic network capacity has been a stated aim of HS2 since its inception. From Hansard, 2009 (Geoff Hoon MP, Sec. State for Transport) Minister:
