Wabtec delivered the first GWR set way back in March after having the vehicles for nearly a year before that, they've had every chance to recover and haven't.
It would be great to see HSTs replaced at one point or another with custom made Hunterston-built Talgo inter-city trains, they'd probably be able to build the factory and push the trains into service long before the last power door Mark 3 leaves Doncaster in November 2027! (at the current rate...
The 'A new era' livery was only put on the first delivery from GWR as a promotion for the new service. If Mk5As were an option, I'd presume that they would be simultaneously ordered with brand new locomotives, either more examples of the yet to be announced mixed traffic locos that DRS are...
I don't think that all the 800s will have "Azuma" on the bodysides, my guess is that after the hype dies down the bodysides will read either nothing or "London North Eastern Railway" (because if it read "LNER" the logo would be repeated on the driving cars), but I think they will retain some of...
Perhaps Scotrail could use soon to be off lease Class 185s instead of using "classic" HSTs while power doors are fitted, they'd certainly would be powerful enough to run the same timetable as a short HST, and have very high spec interiors since their refurb by TPE.
What are people's guesses as to when the last wires will be put in Inverness? I'd say mid to late 2020's. And what is going to happen to the massive skilled work force and supply chain when the rolling program is completed here?
Scotrail are "hoping" for the next set by December, that's 4 months per set, and production hasn't ramped up significantly since the first delivery to GWR in March. It's starting to worry me if the production rate will ever increase, as at this rate the last of the 27 sets will be delivered in...
To be fair, I had a 6 car 170 from INV to HYM on a Sunday a few weeks ago and it was a very quiet and relaxing journey - i think i was quite far away from the engine underfloor because it was unusually silent for a 170. Also the seats on a 170 are really comfortable, more so than the grammer...
Hate to be that guy but a 4 car 755 has a fair bit more power on diesel than even a short HST, it should in fact be one of the fastest - if not, the accelerating diesel units on the network.
