Trivia: Two adjacent/nearby stations with no direct rail link

Thanks sparrow. You are correct that it is a single service, but hardly direct, since it still involves doubling back at Lancaster.

Trivia: Two adjacent/nearby stations with no direct rail link

By way of a slight variation to this thread (or a new one if you wish, mods) What about stations next to each other which DO have a rail link to each other but don't have a direct service? Since I was sitting on one of the below yesterday, I'll start with: Oxenholme and Carnforth (you have...

Carlisle Derby splits and routeing please

Hello Some advice if you would. 1 adult, no railcards, leave Carlisle 11/9 pm to go to Derby BUT via Hale (preferably) or Wilmslow for a 2 hour boj. Returning on 12/9 with an overnight boj at Stockport, so finish journey on 13/9. I thought of splitting at Crewe but am unsure as to rules...

    'on' a station?

And why to announcements on train refer to the 'next station stop'? when the point of a station is to be stationery, ie to stop? So, the 'next station', fine or the 'next stop', also fine. But not the 'next station stop'! Harrumph.

Special needs children denied free first class upgrades

Cheds put this up about two weeks ago and little on this thread has added to it. The same applies to the woman with Parkinson's. yes, she (or her family) could perhaps have told XC in advance and that would have helped. Yes, the rail staff involved probably didn't handle it well and if (if) this...

Special needs children denied free first class upgrades

If some people were allowed a free upgrade, and those with special needs weren't and the reason for this was BECAUSE they were special needs then that is indeed a problem for the TOC because simply it would be unlawful. Note the word IF at the start of the sentence...

Special needs children denied free first class upgrades

As possibly the only poster on here who is a special needs child, I, or rather my Dad, will make a comment.... First off, our usual TOC is Virgin, and their staff, and staff at Carlisle station, are consistently pleasant and helpful and give us just a little extra time when needed or to have...

Route TILBY EXCL FERRY no longer exists

...but if the offence is 'not being able to produce a valid ticket' and you don't know what is/not a valid ticket, then that hardly leaves one in a position to sustain or reject the appeal... .....and if a TOC is minded to prosecute should a particular route or ticket be used again, then that...

Route TILBY EXCL FERRY no longer exists

Let me risk assuming knowledge I may not have in responding to this. This is my first such comment on this forum. Leaving RJs comments to one side entirely.... How is it that an appeals service maintains that they do not know the rules ( " you're are correct...that it is not my area of...

    New Listed Signal Boxes

So what happens to those boxes which are not listed? Are they destroyed or sold or sold in situ? I'm aware that the odd converted box survives as a holiday home, though these may well be when the entire line has closed. Cheers

    Caledonian Sleeper services

anti pacer If you travel on the sleeper you will find that the chances of anything more than hand luggage in the cabin are EXTREMELY limited! Cheers.

    Caledonian Sleeper services

anti pacer So you go off to the buffet worried that your 'sharer' is going through your stuff. Meanwhile, perhaps your sharer doesn't dare to go to the buffet in case you do the same.......... Do we sit next to strangers on planes? Yes. Do we go to the loo? Yes. Do we worry about people...

    Valid ticket for journey?

A variation on the same theme: I recently used the Scottish Sun offer to go from Gretna to Glasgow. This HAD to be booked on Scotrail site and was 'Scotrail only'. It would NOT let me book the (only?) Northern Rail service which runs the route from Newcastle - Carlisle - Dumfries - Glasgow...
