Burnley Manchester Road - Burnley Barracks/Central

10-15 minute walk at max, but about an hour and half on the train changing at Accrington (unless your lucky and the Blackpool South train is running early of the York train is running late)

In the past (before one was resited) Bedford St Johns and Bedford (Midland Road) - 15 minute walk maybe, by train via Northampton and Bletchley until that closed and then via Leicester/Nuneaton/Bletchley

St Helens Central and St Helens Junction.

There used to be a guide in the Timetable and so far I can see Windsor and Eton Central and Windsor and Eton Riverside that hasn't been mentioned

Berwick and North Berwick. Takes AGES by train.

;)

National Rail Enquiries says it takes eight hours (via Brighton and Thameslink seems to be quicker than taking the direct Eastbourne to Victoria services).

Similarly, anyone Southside in Glasgow looking to watch the fitba at the national stadium may be confused to hear that it'd take around fifteen hours and £150 to get from Mount Florida to Hampden Park and back

By way of a slight variation to this thread (or a new one if you wish, mods)

What about stations next to each other which DO have a rail link to each other but don't have a direct service?
Since I was sitting on one of the below yesterday, I'll start with:
Oxenholme and Carnforth (you have to travel via Lancaster and double back)

Oxenholme and Carnforth do not have a rail link between them. Carnforth is only on the Barrow/Leeds lines, so it's not possible to have a train between Carnforth and Oxenholme.

Also we had a thread on that the other day.

Thanks sparrow. You are correct that it is a single service, but hardly direct, since it still involves doubling back at Lancaster.

Yep, we did this recently too.

Adjacent to my previous example of the opposite (Hartford and Greenbank); I give you Acton Bridge and Warrington Bank Quay.

Oh, and whilst we're here, the Middlewich line allows direct running from Sandbach to either Greenbank or Northwich, but no passenger services call, and there's a chord between Greenbank and Acton Bridge, but again, no passenger services call.

Glasgow Central and Queen Street - 5 minute walk, or 13 minutes and a change at Partick by rail.

And that's just between the low levels. To get between the high levels, you'd probably need to go via Greenfaulds and Whifflet.

By that logic, Portsmouth and Southsea low level to Portsmouth and Southsea high/Portsmouth Harbour.

Also, Rowland's Castle to Warblington. 10 mins by car, a lot longer by train (via Havant)

The Heaths are on different lines. Heath Low Level is on the Coryton line and Heath High Level on the Rhymney line. :D
