Surely operational convenience should come before a railway station which no one has any reason to use. If the site is then used for something else then reopen it. People should be mourning the loss of well paid jobs and not in my opinion at least a station that no one is going to use.

If there's literally no reason for anyone to alight at the station why keep it open?

Okay you clearly know what you're talking about! As a rough example the cost of maintaining a turnout on the Hope Valley route where the turnout is situated practically opposite the signal box.

Perhaps they merely reflect the general decline of the city?
