Surely you could make life much easier for yourself by reserving seats before you travel?

In that case why bother with a reservation system if the TOC decides that it's every man / woman / child for themselves at the blink of an eye. Might as well just stick to your own seat in your own car on the motorway.

I think the Scottish sleepers have used Kings Cross from time to time. I have no idea what the name of the TOC is though.

As far as I know the HAA MGR wagons were completely new.

In all fairness the solution is clear; when booking flights choose the operator very carefully. Given that Thomas Cook had been in trouble for quite some time I'm astonished that people were continuing to book flights / packages with them.

I concur that it would have pushed them closer to bankruptcy but that's not the fault of the consumer!

The problem is that was 10 years ago. 10 years ago Thomas Cook were doing okay.

Sadly I fear that you and your wife are in the minority. They certainly paid too much for their acquisitions (which were already struggling to record a profit) but ultimately their business model was flawed.

It's outdated in my opinion at least because more and more people (including my wife and I) do everything on line ourselves. Nowadays you don't need human interaction to book flights, accommodation or hire cars. How on earth they still had 500 shops in the UK is beyond me.
