Disused tunnel just south of Sheffield station?

Many thanks for this. Does the old dive under still exist or has it all been filled in? Do you know what date it closed?

Is the Willington to Long Eaton line freight only?

At one time the line also contained two junctions although everything had been plain lined by 1980 (apart from of course the power station which lasted a bit longer).

Disused tunnel just south of Sheffield station?

Hi everyone, As you depart Sheffield station heading south there is a siding that appears to end at a tunnel mouth. Can anyone confirm whether it is a tunnel mouth and if so where it led to? Thanks for reading this.

    Most expensive beer bought

A bottle of VB cost me the equivalent of £10 when I was working in Singapore eight years a go. Shocking.

Question regarding Class 20s running cab first

Thanks very much for this. I used to watch them many years a go run up the Markham Colliery branch nose first and I always wondered whether there were any restrictions. That said I don't suppose the speed limit was much more than 20 mph! Thanks again.

Is anyone off to University this year?

Some friendly advice from a bloke in his mid 50s. If you're feeling homesick don't lock yourself in your room! Use Freshers Week to see what clubs / societies exist as this will help you make friends. If you're still missing home seek help from your university and register with a local GP...

Your quickest exit from a pub?

Well over 30 years a go, when my wife and I still lived in England we bought our first house around a mile from the nearest village. The first time we walk into the village happens to be a freezing cold night and we're looking forward to a roaring fire and a couple of pints. We enter the pub to...

    Garsdale Query

There were no coal fires in the waiting rooms when we visited this summer. That's not surprising given that the only member of staff at the station is the signalman!

Lasting Impressions From Locomotives / Events

Hi everyone, Just to be clear there are no rules, just type out your memories! I have two from my time in the UK. In the mid 1980s seeing Mallard after it had been rebuilt by a team led by Bob MeanIey. I only ever once saw it in steam and that was at York. I was so impressed with its sleek...

Without the aid of the picture (the size is just above 4MB) it's the open brick built structure at the Dent end of the island platform that I'm referring to.

    Garsdale Query

Hi everyone, This summer we visited Garsdale station for the first time in 30 years and I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what this is. As a wild guess I'm wondering if it acted as a shelter for a brazier which heated a water column but it really is only a wild guess. Thanks for reading this.
