East Croydon to Eastbourne, returning via Brighton with BoJ

Thanks! I suspected as much but wanted to be 100%.

East Croydon to Eastbourne, returning via Brighton with BoJ

The plan is to leave East Croydon (ECR) on a Friday morning after the morning peak (10:30?), direct to Eastbourne (EBN). Then on Sunday, going from Eastbourne to Brighton, breaking the journey for several hours, and returning Brighton to East Croydon. Is this possible on an ECR-EBN off peak...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

TfL need to get their act together re contactless cards. In December, I tried to add an additional card to my account, but couldn't do so because the expiry year is 2032, and the web form only allowed me to select a value up to 2031. I logged it with TfL, and got a useless response back telling...

    Whos voice is this?

Who is the very cross sounding woman who does the announcements on London trams? Maybe it's because Nicholas Owen's "This... tram... is... for... Elmers... End" is so slow and deliberate, but when she kicks in with the "not all tickets are valid..." bit, she sounds like she's having a REALLY BAD...

    Ticketing sites / apps

Same here, plus often 5% cashback with Virgin Money. The problem I find with the LNER website and app is that it copes very badly at times of high demand - e.g. when the advance tickets went on sale for last Christmas, it was impossible to book anything as both the app and website kept timing...

    New National Rail website

I’m using Railboard at the moment. Would like something that has a decent watch app as well. I had been using ByTrain, but that’s being discontinued.

Any chance of them updating the dreadful mobile app as well? The iOS version looks like something from the dark ages.

Amazon Hub Lockers installed at West Midlands Trains railway stations

There's a set at NR-managed Clapham Junction, and my local station (South Croydon, Southern) has one as well as an In Post locker set. Edit: according to this link there are around 150 GTR stations with lockers, or at least were plans for them at the time the article was written in 2020.

Where and how do you normally purchase your train ticket?

Always e-ticket via an app. Trainline if it's same day travel or being expensed to my employer, otherwise LNER.

Not as good as the shopkeeper who named his store “Singhsburys”. He was threatened with legal action by the national chain, so changed the name… to “Morrisinghs”. :D https://news.sky.com/story/singhsburys-becomes-morrisinghs-after-sainsburys-threatens-legal-action-10928534

Trivia: Worst branding elements used for a public transport service

Can someone please explain the reasoning behind having three different coloured/sized “n” logos on Northern’s fleet, as per this picture? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Trains#/media/File%3A195001_of_Northern_Trains_at_Lime_Street.jpg

Trains told to get rid of torrent of 'Tannoy spam'

I’ve heard this on services between Clapham Junction and Wimbledon in the past… it always seemed to trigger at the same point in the journey.
