LNER Advanced Fares Conundrum.

Looking for fares from London to Wakefield on for the evening of Sunday 26th March, all the Advanced Purchase fares seem to be over sixty pounds one way. This seems ludicrously high, given that fares around that time are usually half as high.

Sure enough, around a month earlier on 12th Feb we're looking at around thirty quid. 26th Feb we're looking slightly higher at £45.

Any ideas what's going on ?

Now you mention it, fares do drop back down before the final whistle.

Or possibly Ukraine fans. But very likely, people will have bought match tickets and will want travel tickets too.

Just tried this myself - eg 6.03 from KGX is showing as £31.20 undiscounted for me

Plenty of tickets at £30 that evening up until the 18:35. There is also the (slower) option of East Midlands from London to Sheffield for £27 (eg 4pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm) then a £4.50 advance to Wakefield on Northern. But that’ll come to four hours end to end

I'm not averse to a 4 hour trip, however I would like to get the most out of Sunday so don't want to leave too early.

If you do "filter" then "route options" on the LNER website and say you want a change at Peterborough there are some later journeys quite a bit cheaper (eg 20.35 is £39). May be splits too but assume you've tried that

Yeah - I only tried Doncaster and PBO so might be worth checking other intermediate stations

Match won't have finished by then if it's this that's causing the price spike.

What prices are showing for ECML departures from KGX to Wakefield/Leeds on 26MAR2023 at (or after) 1935?

Stevenage looks to be a good split point.
