This weekend Sat 15 Feb there are engineering works at Basingstoke. Doing a journey enquiry on National Rail shows trains at 19.35 and 21.35 taking 2h9m and involving a bus.
However there seems to be a direct service at 21.27 which takes just 1h17m and calls at Basingstoke.
As Basingstoke is...
There is to be a new station Beaulieu Park. However there is also an existing station Beaulieu Road.
The two names are so similar I can foresee people buying tickets and possibly even travelling to the wrong one !
Perhaps slight change of name is needed to differentiate them. Like...
Travelling on Southern recently I notice they have changed their announcements. Whereas trains always used to divide they now say separate. Also the train has 8 Carriages not 8 Coaches.
Does anyone know why they have done this. Has there been some sort of research to say people are confused...
In the 2019 I wonder how many TOC's have no Semaphores on their route. Very few I think.
Virgin West Coast maybe though they could encounter some on diversionary routes. Apart from that I can't think of any.
Why don't they reuse old lift shafts to improve accessibility. Quite a few stations had lifts that were converted to escalators. I was standing on the Piccadilly line platform at South Kensington as you an actually see where there lift shaft was. I would have though it would be cheaper to...
I was at Finsbury Park today waiting for a train to Kings Cross. Platform 4 was showing at 1257. There was a platform change to platform 2 so had to cross via the subway. However I noticed that the line had a platform face both sides. There was a platform 3 which does not seem to be used.
Is...
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned but there was a trap and drag at Bushey. From RAIB website
Link https://www.gov.uk/government/news/passenger-incident-at-bushey-station
It doesn't actually say which train was involved but they have a picture of platform 6 which would make it a London...
As we end 2017 I think Pewsey must be the only station left in the country where all the trains that stop there only have slam doors. This will change later in 2018 when IET start running. Is there any other station like this ?
Travelled on a Windsor train from Waterloo yesterday I was surprised to find the doors released immediately the train came to a halt. Previously with SWT the guard would get out of the train and check it is on the platform before doors are released.
I assume this is a new method of...
When OOC is closed the sleepers will be taking to Reading depot for servicing. It would make sense to have an electric loco doing the drag to and from the depot.
Then you would not need to have a diesel running at Paddington providing the train supply and pumping out fumes.
They seem to...
Is there anywhere in the country you could reopen a 4 track railway. Im guessing probably not as places that needed 4 track have probably not been closed only reduced from 4 to 2.
In preservation you have 2 track railway on the Great Central (which also has loops at Swithland but not long...
Surprised there is not yet a thread on here. (Unless Ive missed it sorry)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4071568/Dorset-couple-face-parent-s-nightmare-train-pulls-away-platform-board-three-young-crying-children-platform.html
Train was SWT with guard. However if you read the full story...
Looking forward to this possibility when the wires are up after many years of travelling behind them on the WCML.
Are there any technical reasons why this could not happen ?
I was on the Hammersmith and City S7 stock between Paddington and Euston Square. I was surprised how short the platform is at Baker Street. The whole of the last carriage does not fit on.
Does anyone know why it is so short. Edgware Road, Great Portland Street and Euston Square can fit the...
So if you buy a ticket to Richmond in London the destination is Richmond (London). Presumably to differentiate it from Richmond in Yorkshire even though that station closed in 1969.
However the route on a ticket from Bristol Temple Meads is NOT via London. So you can buy a ticket to a place...
