Elmers End to Sanderstead, and arguably Addiscombe as well never made serious money, indeed the former was closed for much of the 1920s. Useful for the Croydon Tramlink once closed.
At a very niche level the down fast to down slow crossover at New Malden was in operation yesterday (and perhaps today). Not sure about up slow to up fast. Wax just the Reading services which were diverted via Kingston and reverse at Teddington.
Maybe, though having bought the ticket at Sanderstead I doubt it was a Thameslink super off peak ticket. And Sanderstead is served by Thameslink, albeit not on a Saturday.
Sanderstead to Luton early on a Saturday. Ticket bought from a human at Sanderstead with Network Railcard. Rejected at Sanderstead: let through without a railcard check (understandably as the person had seen me purchasing ticket). Rejected at Luton, let through no railcard check. Back from Luton...
Thanks. I once made it over the 15mph crossover up fast to reversible when we got sent back to Clapham Jct because of a bomb scare. Probably 30 years ago.
And using it tonight. Not sure why as 18:35 left on time.
No one’s yet mentioned what used to be known as the empty carriage line out of the Sussex side of London Victoria. Used to allow simultaneous departures from the high numbered platforms (send one via the loop, one via the down fast). For example xx:05 from 15 is a few mins late; xx:08 sent via...
18:50 Tuesday. MPV ticking away at platform 15 at London Victoria. First diesel I’ve seen in the Brighton side platforms since the Thumpers were withdrawn. Gentle smell of diesel in the 15-19 concourse area.
Stratford is certainly interesting. Freight, tube to Elizabeth line cross platform interchange, longer distance services, Overground, Jubilee Line, DLR x2. Nowhere else can one see that level of variety. I do know my way around; though reading through the comments I realised that I too navigate...
I’ve used the one in Lima, Peru (crowded but quick) and seen the one in Bogotá, Colombia (also looked busy). Neither were a patch on the genuine metro in Medellin (quick, smooth and busy).
I will go through to check and eliminate those which had a station but that station is closed. I suspect counting the number of junctions at stations will take longer.
