    Which may be a reflection on pre-grouping efficiency in the constituent companies (Midland Railway small engine policy) and that the Southern was much less affected by economic traumas than the LMS - so the LMS had to reduce loco numbers to reflect the relative decline in traffic.

    Stats are always going to be right but not wholly relevant because there isn’t, as far as I am aware, weighting for the number of passengers on the train. Morning peak bad into London and vice versa will affect more passengers than gain by counter peak and late evening being good.
