How will Gatwick station cope with a second runway?

Completely agree. End the price differential, ensure there’s an 15 min Gatwick Express service, do not advertise Southern services from Victoria as stopping at Gatwick (and advertise Southern services as terminating at Clapham Jct). I know that this is creating a fake destination (a bete noir...

    Winding back the railway clock

And empty trains making no money, or perhaps losing even more than a full one.

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

BML, as ever in this forum, isn’t the Engineers’ Line Reference for the line from London Victoria to Brighton. I tend to think the Bournemouth Main Line (BML) is better with flying junctions at regular intervals (if only they’d done Woking).

Trivia: Physically connected neighbouring train stations with no regular direct train service.

There are morning and evening peak trains which stop at both. Nothing at the weekend.

Borders Railway - 10 years on

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

As the previous comment on 18:40. Food wasn’t bad; but there certainly was a bit of grumbling about the lack of food or drink between Amsterdam and Brussels. Can’t say whether things have got worse. I tend to eat most of what’s presented to me. Hoping peteb was a parkrunner - Schoterbos for me.

Busiest piece of individual track in the the UK?

It’s interesting how different geographical starting points lead to different conclusions. Every London Underground line has sections at more than 12 tph. Many have double. Network Rail infrastructure in London often has more than 12 tph, sometimes over significant distances. The sheer intensity...

Balham signal failure 24 April 2026

Is anyone able to say what’s failed? Feels like we’ve been talked through the down fast signals either side of Balham.

That’s the one I’m on. I love decently full trains.

Most multiple units used for a service

On a 4x377 12 coach train at the moment. Full at 09:50 on a Sunday morning with Gatwick flyers and Londoners heading to the coast.

What could be done to increase rail usage outside of London?

How would this stop car parks being used by people not using the railway?

And only relevant when the clocks changed, which practice began in WW1.

What if the Greenwich Park and Crystal Palace High Level branches remained open?

The former would be a basket case; as it always was. The latter would be a Thameslink metro basket case.

You might want to amend the year in your first sentence.

Calais to Paris via Tergnier due to an Accident Technique. 75 mins late.
