EC has sent a brief out to all guards that they can at their discretion offer a £25 upgrade to first class on any weekday service, throughout the next few weeks, flat rate no matter the length of the journey, this offer will run until Sep 5th.

Travelled on one of these today, pretty impressive. Luggage space, decent leg room, free wifi and plug sockets. In a smart blue livery rather than the usual orange too. An increased frequency to every 20 mins also. Certainly a step in the right direction.

As from tomorrow (4th Sep) EC are reducing the £20 weekend first upgrade to £15, the £25 upgrade remains unchanged, the points between where the 2 upgrades apply is also unchanged.
While in Kings x this am was told that you can now upgrade to first class mon-fri at weekend first prices on the Newark and York all stop trains only in both directions, these are the trains which leave KX at xx08, York at xx01 and Newark xx54. Asked a few guards and they confirmed this...
