Upgrade to first class for £20/25 during week on EC

While in Kings x this am was told that you can now upgrade to first class mon-fri at weekend first prices on the Newark and York all stop trains only in both directions, these are the trains which leave KX at xx08, York at xx01 and Newark xx54. Asked a few guards and they confirmed this, although the offer doesnt seem that well advertised. Can only be done on board, same terms and conditions of weekend first apply.

It did get me thinking on the Newark Services, if food isn't served unless you are travelling for more than 70 minutes, is it ever served as only Newark would meet that criteria. Anyone know what the loading on the services is like, I suspect the Newark on is very quite, the York on may be a bit better as it is Retford's only option. But considering that York and Doncaster have much quicker services a few minutes ahead maybe not.

You can, yes.

Holders of a First Class priv either 75%, boxes or status are required to pay £12.50 for a buffet voucher on board to avail themselves of the catering offerings.

However any priv ticket, (standard included), can purchase the "weekend upgrade" and have the complimentary offer at no extra charge. From what I'm hearing, this is just weekend first available mid-week.

Slight correction to the original post, the upgrade is a flat rate of £20 even to York. Just to confirm again this offer is only available on the Newark and York terminators (everyone of them regardless of the time). Yes the 70 min rule will still apply for food, but alcohol and soft drinks will be included. The voucher for first priv pass has now been reduced to £6.90. Also just been informed that the upgrade is also available on the 1906 Lincoln service

I'm sure the OP can correct me but I'm sure if I were to travel from Kings Cross/Stevenage to Leeds/Newcastle/Edinburgh etc...I would be charged the upgrade of £25 however if I travelled from Peterborough to these destinations, it's only £20.

This is correct on a weekend and bank hol yes, but the offer during the week on the york/newark/lincoln terminators is a flat £20

It sounds like good deal but link to the offer would be good as guess not all staff would be aware of the offer or how to process the tickets etc

Also just asked station staff and guard onboard this servicve and both said that the week first upgrade from newark does not exist it is only for lincoln.

Although you live in Newark and ought to know better, East Coast do indeed operate Newark Stoppers as they were originally meant to run though to Lincoln.

The services below are the Monday to Friday services and usually are 91s although obviously HSTs can appear on the workings.

12:08 Kings Cross to Newark Northgate arriving at 13:37
14:08 Kings Cross to Newark Northgate arriving at 15:37
16:08 Kings Cross to Newark Northgate arriving at 17:38

Holders of all valid Standard tickets and passes can travel in extra comfort on EC services on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays in First Class accommodation labelled "Weekend First", on payment of the relevant supplement. ...

Weekend First supplements are:

• London/Stevenage – Wakefield/York and north thereof £25·00 per single journey
• London/Stevenage – Hull, Brough, Selby and all stations south of York and Wakefield £20·00 per single journey
• all non-London EC journeys i.e. starting and ending at Peterborough or north thereof £20·00 per single journey

I can only go on what ive been told by the guards i have spoke to, they said they all got messages on their blackberrys, stating the £20 offer was on all the all stop Newark and York services and also the evening Lincoln service. (NOT the morning Lincoln). I can only suggest someone fires an email off too EC to resolve this contradiction.
