Should First Class be abolished throughout the UK Rail Network?

I voted for the "I have used it and it should be kept". Sometime last year, I took the GF to Newcastle for the day. Neither of us had really experienced first class before (I don't know if 101 DMU's really count LOL), and knowing how busy/noisy/cramped/uncomfortable standard class on the ECML...

    FGW : First Class Offerings?

I must admit, I did time these journeys to coincide with the Pullman dining. Thanks for the clarification, I don't mind buying brunch (outward) and dinner (return from Penzance (but after Plymouth)) now I know hot food is not provided free. As a related question, HOW does one request a seat in...

    FGW : First Class Offerings?

I will be going down to Par on a Thursday in July on the 1006 ex Paddington, and returning the following week on the Wednesday on the 1047 (if memory serves right) from Penzance to Paddington. Both journeys will be in first class, and while I'm hoping to have brunch on the way down, and dinner...

Rather large out of court settlement

A London banker who regularly avoided buying a train ticket on his commute to the City has been banned from working in the financial services industry. More here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30475232

    Stagecoach Gold/Arriva Sapphire?

The 100/101/102 services between Stevenage and Luton are apparently going Sapphire, but date unknown.

    6S26 derailed at Heworth.

    No other details I'm afraid.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

In four weeks time, I'm going to Newcastle from Stevenage (and back) in First Class. On the ticket envelope, it says free drinks and food. Does the food bit apply to a Saturday, which is when I'll be travelling?

    EMT Network Map

    Must agree.

    Project Mapping all stations map

As maps go, it looks quite nice. Would have preferred the true outline of the country as opposed to what is there.

South Yorkshire OAP "protests" over trains no longer being free

Another thing I disagree with is the over 60's using their cards to travel free - to go to work. Why should taxpayers pay for someone else to go to work?

    Problems Norwich Ely

At Ely awaiting the 0928 to Norwich. Train cancelled due to a 'problem under investigation'. Anyone know whats happened? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Apparently a body has been found on or near the rail line near Thetford. Police have declared it a crime scene. Buses being...

South Yorkshire OAP "protests" over trains no longer being free

This does happen. Fact. (We need a like button).

South Yorkshire OAP "protests" over trains no longer being free

This is one example of how the p*** is taken:- There are two 'twirlies' (our nickname for pensioners) who travel at least once a day from stop A to stop B, get off the bus and wait for the next one going in the opposite direction, and then get off at stop C. For each person, that's 2 fares...

South Yorkshire OAP "protests" over trains no longer being free

I believe Hertfordshire card holders can get free rail travel within Hertfordshire. Not sure if there are any time limits. I do agree with a poster above who says that these card-holders should pay 50p/£1 per journey on the buses. As a bus driver myself, I know of several people here in...

South Yorkshire OAP "protests" over trains no longer being free

Personally, and honestly, I don't think OAP's, the disabled or whoever should get free travel, buses, trains or otherwise. (This does not include staff perks). (runs and ducks for cover)

    Railway food

There used to be a privately run cafe at Huntingdon. Not been that way for a few years so don't know if it's still there.

    Dawlish sea wall collapse

I see on the BBC News website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26068375) an old railway map that shows there was a line from Lydford which joined the GWML just East of Plymouth. If an alternative route, via Okehampton and Tavistock, was to be re-used, the use of the line from Lydford to the GWML...

    Train or Railway Station?

As Wikipedia says: An aerodrome or airdrome is a location from which aircraft flight operations take place, regardless of whether they involve cargo, passengers, or neither. Aerodromes include small general aviation airfields, large commercial airports, and military airbases. The term airport...

    Cambridge guided busway

The level crossing at Milton Road always existed. Yes, there was an underpass but to say the road dived under (the railway) is not correct. The underpass was narrow, low, and one-way only, that being North to South. Very few vehicles ever used it.

    Major Disruption on TL route

As an Arriva bus driver, I can assure you we were taking FCC pasengers yesterday. They now seem to have sorted out their own bus and coach services.
