A FCC employee at St Albans this morning said they were waiting for testing to be carried out.

TPE kicks woman and child off train

I would have liked to see a photograph of Lucy's railcard. It might be a case of "I'll order online and say I have a railcard, and if I get caught I'll say I forgot it".

Weather related disruption - Christmas 2013 and New Year 2014

In answer to RYS (above), when I worked in the booking office at Cambridge, there was a clause in the conditions of travel that basically said that BR did not have to provide a service at all. Don't know if that's still in the conditions, but if it is, that's the way out for the TOCs.

Delays on ECML at New Barnet (17 Dec)

I hear it's a massive signalling failure. Precisely where or what I do not know.

First Great Western to be renamed/reliveried?

From reading the above, how about having a livery for InterCity services (a nice fawn colour with a red stripe perhaps) and another livery for all other services (like blue with grey window surrounds). To give the impression it's a nationwide network, have the name 'British Rail' on the coaches...

    WCML Closure?

Looking at the above, he is starting from Whitchurch and going to London via Crewe, thence to Aberdeen or Dundee and back to Crewe. Seems most suggestions think he is starting in Aberdeen.

Why Are We Always In A Hurry?

(for tbtc especially) I was actually hoping to see a discussion about why people always seem to be in such a rush these days (and not just on train journeys).

Why Are We Always In A Hurry?

I have just seen a news report on the BBC News website where they want to speed up journey times between Norwich/Ipswich and London. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-24860394 The time saving quoted from Ipswich to London would only be TEN minutes. Is it really worthwhile spending...

Strangest looking passenger you have seen

Not oddly dressed, but certainly rather curious... A few years ago, while working in Cambridge Travel Office, due to a shortage of staff at Audley End, I was asked if I'd go there for a few weeks, which I did. After closing the office, I caught a Liverpool St-Cambridge commuter train back...

Person falls off platform at Cambridge, gets hit by train (non-fatal)

In all the time I worked at Cambridge station from 1971 until somewhere in the 90's, the bit of platform adjacent to the scissors crossover was never used to board/disembark passengers. There MAY have been one exception when I remember there was a quite lengthy special in the platform, but other...

    Problem with 1D10 1035 Kings Cross-Leeds Today

Above train was cancelled at Stevenage this morning due to there being no electricity on the train. Fortunately, my friend on that train intended to disembark at Stevenage. What surprised me though is that they let it leave Kings Cross in the first place.

    FCC Enjoying the railways

Pity they don't proof read it properly first though, small typo but still bad - "...to visit one's maiden aunt at her cottage on the outskirts on King's Lynn, ..." (my bold).

    Passengers treated just like peasants...

As mentioned above, Arriva (at least in the Shires area) do not issue us drivers (yes, I am one of them) with any float what-so-ever. As the law stands : It is up to the customer to pay the exact fare. A bus driver, shop keeper or whoever is not legally bound to give change, nor can the...

Police presence on late night trains.

Perhaps making alcohol less easily available might help - i.e., supermarkets and the like not being allowed to sell the stuff - so that people do have to go to pubs or off licences to buy it. Or, alternatively, making the supermarkets charge the same price as a pub - with no discounts or offers...
