EMT Network Map

An unusual style but I think this is an improvement on the previous effort, which due to the size of EMT's network didn't really show the true position of a lot of places.

It also gives prominence to the MML and Liverpool-Norwich routes over the local routes.

Never liked the old map at all. The old one looks decent, it's actually not a bad shot at geographical accuracy either. The timetable numbers are a useful touch too.

Indeed, I never realised it was so difficult to get to Worksop from Gainsborough!

Both are better than the one that was up at derby for some time, that didn't have London St Pancras on. Fortunately now replaced, unlike posters at leicester for the 16-25 and Senior railcards for £28.

I would agree entirely with your point - not only is it easy to understand, the geographical accuracy is good, particularly with the relative locations over larger distances.

I have to admit I like that, but I preferred the old map which although diagrammatic was easier to understand from my perspective. I do like the colour coding though. A few minor issues with the new map:
1. I'm not keen on the way the limited services between Melton Mowbray and Sileby have been done: it looks messy, particularly the way the limited Nottingham to Peterborough service overlays the Route 8 Nottingham to Leicester section as far as Sileby. Perhaps seperate lines would be better in this area, especially considering the Norwich trains don't stop at Beeston, Barrow or Sileby anyway.
2. It doesn't show the limited Route 1 calls at Alfreton, Langley Mil, Newark Castle or Collingham, but I'm being picky here.

TOC maps are pointless. If you're familiar with the area you don't need the map. If you're not familiar with the area they are seriously misleading because they don't show all routes in most regions.
I especially feel sorry for anyone from abroad trying to to travel by train in the UK.

I dont like the old one, too plain, but it did at least look like a public transport network. The new one looks like a map of hiking trails.

From a Graphical point of view I like the new design however I personally find the new map quite hard to read compared to the old one

I saw this whilst travelling on a 156 the other day. I have to say that I rather liked it, the old one looked very plain and utilitarian, whilst it did the job it looked rather cold to me.
This new one looks fresh and modern with more of an idea of what the railway looks like and where places actually are, where as the old one did it's best to convince you that all railways were dead straight lines with only very occasional and violently sharp bends.
It seems that EMT are trying to present a more relaxed (if that be the right word) appearance of late. I'm sure regular travelers haven't failed to notice the signs on the inside of the toilet lids requesting that you don't throw unpaid bills, your ex's jumper etc, down the toilet. The first time I saw one of these I laughed so hard I got some very funny looks returning to my seat.
I suppose it's a case of every man to his own, some will like it some won't, you can't please 100% of folk, 100% of the time.

Indeed. The XC one isn't too bad - though the overview image you see on http://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/tickets-timetables/routes only shows XC routes the PDF it links to includes connecting routes run by other operators (e.g. you can see that it is possible to get from Nottingham to Leicester without going via Birmingham).

It's not too bad, but I think straight lines display the information in a much clearer and more concise way than curvy ones. Hence why the London Underground map has been the way it is for many years. And the areas of the dotted lines over the solid lines look incredibly unprofessional.

Thick lines for primary routes, thinner lines for secondary routes, all lines neat and straight, and shows other operators routes too.
