Rather than go through to Clapham Jn from MK, surely it would be quicker to get off at Wembley Ctl and get the Bakerloo Line to Waterloo and get the Jubille Line or the Overground to Euston and then the Northern Line to London Bridge.
What is the closest a Pacer gets to London on a regualar diagram? My best guess is Lincoln?
There are actually a few lines down this way where they'd be more suited to other lines up north. Thinking Greenford Branch, Sudbury Branch, Marlow Branch etc.
I don't understand why the 91's-Mk4's need replacing? They were refurbished to a high standard recently and are perfectly suited to the route they operate. Why not put the meridians on the ECML to replace the HST's and boost capacity IEPS on the MML when it is electrified??? Just seems a...
When they were at SWT they were really nice, comftable trains to travel on and perfectly suited to the route they travelled on. Whichever numpty thought out the stock cascade to Gatwick Express needs sacking. The refurbishment was terrible, the long period in store did the 442's no good and they...
Post Privatisation I would say a Pendolino, not everyone's cup of tea, but they really have revolutionised the WCML, a Class 170 (First Post-Priv DMU) and maybe a 458 (First Post-Priv EMU I think) and also a Class 66.
From the stock I travel on a regular basis, 450's by a long way. Travelling on these units in the rush hour is a horrible caustrophobic and cramped experience which results in achey shoulders as you have to curve them to sit down. As for the padding, a park bench has more. Dreadful, dreadful...
Why don't the DFT make Cross Country take some as a short term solution? There is obviously a capacity issue on their network, double up the voyagers so there are no short trains and use the surplus HST's to cover all the diagrams vacated by doubling up the voyagers. Cross Country already have...
What about track on bridges etc? With no give underneath I can imagine this gets even more bashed up. I was thinking Welwyn viaduct might be another shout.
They're not thick, just politicaly motivated. The ECML is the jewel in the crown of the railways in this country, so to be able to build shiny new trains in england (even though all the profit will go overseas) for the ECML looks good for those in power. It's not as glamourus as the MML. All...
I don't understand why not just leave the 91's on the ECML where they are totally suitable and still have lots of life in them yet and build the IEP's to go on the MML..... or does that sound to simple?
There are a number of services in the morning and evening peaks that run fast between Waterloo and Surbiton formed of 455's which get up to 75. 19:20 from Waterloo is one I can think of, there are lots more too.
This is true, but because the 185's have a higher top speed, greatly increased acceleration and their dwell times are a lot less too, I would imagine this might free up another path between Basingstoke and Waterloo which would result in a significant increase in seats per hour between these...
No...Its just where they are most suited. Just like the 455's (which are older) should be on the SWML suburban services. The 150's should be refurbished to a similar standard though.
Who uses the Calder Valley route right though? Its primary function is to bring people from Rochdale etc to...
These are suburban lines that are better served by 150's/172's etc not 100 mph capable units that will be better utilised on long distance but high use lines, like Waterloo to Exeter. Also the routes you mention will not need 51 units. The 158's/9's displaced could strengthen regional services...
