Discussion on electrification and the Marlow branch

I was thinking, could a class 466 be altered to AC easily? As in fit a transformer and a pantograph and off it goes? If so surely that's the answer. GW could swap say 4 365's for 5 or 6 466's? Gives South Eastern a few more extra carriages for 12 vice 10 car trains and 8 vice 6. 6 466's could...

    Hot Spares

Certainly most driver depots have spare train crew, which is usually the problem rather than the train itself. Often units can be stepped up (i.e. turnaround times tightened) at major terminals but if the train crew are stuck further up the line, it is more difficult to step up train crew due to...

    Class 456's on the move?

That's all well and good but you should have seen the traffic chaos it caused. In effect it reduced the A3 in the rush hour to 1 lane. Goodness knows what happend when it got on to the local roads in Wimbledon. Just sums up the crazy world of the privitised railway that a train (that is in main...

    Class 387

Has a Class 387 been round the Sutton Loop yet in service or as a test run? I know there is nothing booked but in disruption etc has it happened?

    Class 456's on the move?

Saw the unit being delivered on the A3 the other evening, was very strange seeing a train like that! Why is not delivered by rail? Surely it costs more and causes more inconvience.

Unverified proposals for Cl 222 Meridians on Waterloo-Exeter (and maybe beyond)

Surely a better solution would be for FGW to run a service to Paddington? One of their class 180's would be very suitable.

    Brighton Belle, Lord Nelson & King Edwards 1 & 2 & Others

Lord Nelson is running on the watercress line as part of their regular fleet. It's running every weekend this month if you want to go and see it.

Camberley residents would like faster services to Waterloo

Could you not split the Windsor trains at Staines? They are never particually busy beyond Staines. If one portion is late returning, the portion that is on time can go on time short formed and the late part goes into the sidings to await the return journey. Unit wise, you could use 455...

    South West Trains Timetable Tweaks

Surely it would be better to run fast the services that are one path ahead of the services that start at Raynes Park? That way the space on board the two train would be more evenly spread and anyone on the train ahead of the xx:21 departures that wants Clapham or Vauxhall would simply alight...

    LM 319 cascade progress

There are 7 319/2's so it would make sense for these to replace the 7 321s. They already have 1st class (which is needed on LM) and have 2x2 seating + tables so could be used on the longer Birmingham runs etc if required.

    87002

86 101 has been doing driver training runs in and out of euston last week, so yes I think this is happening

Dirtiest parts of the London rail network

The Victoria Line trains can be filthy especially going south in the evening, wet grimy copies of the metro and evening standard trodden into the floor, coffee cups on the seats etc

    2-Hap withdrawals

I think I remember travelling on these as a child in the early 90's between Ascot and Aldershot. Would this be right?

If World War 2 had never happened....

The London Underground Northern Line would have been very different and more extensive today if it wasn't for WW2. The Northern Heights project would have been completed, Northern Line trains would have run to Bushey Heath both via Mill Hill East and Golders Green and the Northern Line would...

    Hayley at Holyhead

I think there is a big difference between a Big Issue seller and someone just begging for cash as a con artist or for their drug habit. At euston there is actually now a dedicated spot for a big issue seller. The Big Issue is a fantastic way of helping the homeless and it's good network rail...

    Clapham - London Bridge

Because he has a southern ticket....you can break your journey at Wembley etc but the ticket won't work at Euston's barriers. Saying that you could get off at Watford Jn, go out the barrrier and tap back in with an oyster card then do as the poster said go straight into euston on LM
