    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

I went in the Newcastle and Doncaster lounges a couple of times last week and absolutely no change in what refreshments are available. That includes the fact that the entrance doors are left unlocked and no one checks that you have a 1st class ticket.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I'm on the 12.25 from Newcastle to London. The Guard seems to unable to use the words 'Virgin Trains', refers to the quiet coaches as 'rooms', the passengers as 'guests' and the crew in1st are hardly overworking themselves by sitting around chatting loudly at the end of the quite coach. I...

Failed freight train in Beattock area

I'm on the 09.30 from Euston to Glasgow Central and have been at a standstill in the Beattock area for an hour due to a failed freight train just ahead of us. The TM has said that a loco is being sent to rescue the freight but is not likely to arrive until about 15.00. The following Edinburgh...

    Eurostar Queries

I remember in the early days of Eurostar, there was certainly a mixture of nationalities forming the onboard catering crew but as time went on, the number of those of British background rapidly declined. In fact, for many years, I only came across one British member of catering crew. The last...

I've just had a look at the site and the menu for 26th January onwards has now been uploaded. But I see Chrism20 just got there first!

    Dutch flyer - some facts

On the two occasions I've travelled overnight from Harwich as a foot passenger, check in opened at 20:30. The first time actual boarding was a few minutes after that as we had to wait for a bus to take us on board. The second time, the walkway was in use, so we were able to board immediately.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Yes, you're right Butts, Virgin now use DHL for their catering supplies. No, I didn't realise DHL did more than deliver packages.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Back home now after being on my travels again with a 14 day ALR. I did several journeys on East Coast trains, especially as I based in Newcastle for a couple of days. Overall, i found staff attentive, efficient and some had a friendly approach too. A few comments: I twice went on the 18.45...

12.45 Leeds to Kings Cross 4th November 2014

Ah, right. The Guard said she didn't know the reason for the delay when she apologised for it over the PA

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I very much agree with Arctic Troll's comments. I always enjoy travelling on the 17,30 out of Kings Cross as the crew members are always, in my experience, very efficient, friendly and often start serving the cold drinks even before departure. It's true that Virgin only do one drinks run on...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Update regarding my posts #4749 and #4791 from July and August: Following the time when I was refused a ham and egg sandwich in 1st Class plus the rather poor response from my complaint to East Coast Customer Relations, I received a private message on here suggesting I contact the CEO of...

    Birmingham to Whitstable

Advice needed, please. I have a Virgin 1st Advance ticket from New Street to Whitstable for tomorrow which has route: VWC & Connections. I have to travel on the 10:30 from New St to Euston arriving 11:55. The itinerary says I should go to Victoria and then go on the 12:52 from there arriving in...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

No Butts, no voucher received. Just the rather bland reply which has taught me that if in future I travel on East Coast when using an ALR, if asked where I am travelling to, I might respond with the name of whatever the final destination is whether I intend to go there or not.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Following my post 4749 on 25th July, I wrote to East Coast and this is the reply I received: "Thank you for your correspondence received on 29th July 2014. I’m sorry to learn you have cause to complain regarding your recent 1st Class experience with us. I understand your disappointment in not...

    Smoking on station platform

I was at Ormskirk station a couple of weeks ago where I saw the guard of a Merseyrail train light up a cigarette while standing on the platform next to his cab just before departure. This was under the platform canopy not on an open platform.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I did several journeys on East Coast in 1st class in May and again during the past two weeks using an ALR . Although none of the All Day hot options appealed to me this time, I always found at least one of the sandwich choices suited my taste for simple food. Also, I had come to the conclusion...

    Rugby down fast

Is there a problem with the down fast through line in Rugby? Watching trains yesterday from my hotel bedroom, all Down Trent Valley trains seemed to be routed via the island platform (2?). Today, I'm on the 17:30 Glasgow train and that was routed through the platform line too
