Yes, there was. I can't recall the detail but I travelled on the Night Ferry through train from Victoria to Paris Nord in the summer of 1980(?), the last year of service.
I remember that passengers had to pass through an office adjacent to the the departure platform and an officer looked at my...
Yes, nothing to moan about. Staff on the sleeper and on the platform at Preston were very helpful and efficient.
I'm travelling on an ALR so not in a particular hurry anywhere today. I caught 6.23 Voyager to Chester to pass the time and then the WAG express south. Had a great breakfast on...
Update on the issue I raised:
Well, after being told by Scotrail Customer Relations that they would not discuss the matter any more, I wrote a pleasant letter to Scotrail's MD in Glasgow explaining to him what had happened. Today I received his reply and let me quote one paragraph from it:
"It...
Travelling on 390054 for the first time last week, I was surprised that even though built several years after the other sets, it still comes with the the, now superfluous, entertainment sockets between the seats. Also, was disappointed that wifi has not yet been set up on board.
Yes, to me, their wording implies that if I had, for example, an Anytime Single, that would not have been entitled to compensation ether as that too would have been valid on other train services
No, were were told to the Scotrail lounge and then told when to board the 5:40. Not that everyone did, at least one decided to go on the 5.55 to Glasgow presumably to catch a Virgin train to one of the stations that the sleeper should have called at
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---...
I tried to raise the issue of the Passenger Charter with Scotrail Customer Relations this morning but they said a Senior Manager had made a final decision, they were not prepared to discuss it and that I had to contact Passsenger Focus if I was not satisfied.
I travelled on the FTW to EUS sleeper on 21st September. Unfortunately, there were technical issues with the loco almost as soon as the train had departed Fort William with the first of many long stops. Clearly, the delay got worse and worse and, in the end, all the passengers were told at 4.30...
When booking, ask for a berth in the centre of the coach. So, assuming you are going in single berth 1st class, numbering is in odd numbers from 1 to 23. I would avoid these at all costs: 1 is next to the toilet as well as nearest the bogies. 23, as well as near to the bogies at other end, is...
Several comments based on what has been said already:
Virgin are not as generous with toast as they once were. Occasionally offered twice but more than not these days, only once. In particular, going south from Glasgow, I've sometimes been offered it once between there and Carlisle or it's been...
I thought this recent story might be relevant. I wonder if the frequent announcements disturb the users of the excellent station pub there?

Regarding receiving compensation for train delays, I travelled from Doncaster to Kings Cross on 28th June by East Coast when I had a 1st class All line Rover. There was a 105 minute delay due to lightening striking signalling equipment. I received £99.30 travel vouchers today from East Coast...
I travelled on East Coast on Friday for the first time since the changes on day one of an ALR.I was on the 14:29 from York to Kings Cross. Overall, I thought the service compared well with Virgin for a journey of that duration. Tea and coffee service before departure, drinks and sandwiches...
A friend of mine had one of those business types sitting opposite him a few years ago and after enduring this man constantly using his phone and talking loudly for some time he decided to start reading aloud from his newspaper. Within a short space of time, the man asked him to stop doing that...
Not travelled on that particular service before but, in general, from my experience, boarding normally starts about 20/25 minutes before departure for Virgin's Pendolino services from Glasgow. Only times I have not seen that happen is when the incoming service has been delayed.
I'm wondering how restrictive/generous East Coast is with the alcohol. I find that on Virgin from Euston to West Midlands, Manchester, Liverpool and Preston the normal practice is to offer one drink as the trolley passes out from kitchen and another on its way back to the kitchen. This seems...
In my experience, yes.
Having said that, it's been about 5 months since I was on one of those services and then it was just coffee/tea/orange juice and a bacon panini. I seem to recall another thread on here saying the breakfast offering had been improved on West Midlands/Scotland Super Voyagers.
Thanks to everyone for their answers. The reason I wondered how much money went to the company selling the All Line Rover is that up to now, I've nearly always bought them from my local Virgin station. However, as they are one of the companies who have introduced the morning time restriction, I...
