Sorry guys, it had to be asked due to VTs poor customer relations being rubbish...

Are you likely to be served breakfast when travelling on a breakfast train from Birmingham - Crewe?

Its a bit of an ask, considering its only 47 minutes but do they actually serve it?


VTs relations simply told me "Breakfast is served at that station"

In my experience, yes.

Having said that, it's been about 5 months since I was on one of those services and then it was just coffee/tea/orange juice and a bacon panini. I seem to recall another thread on here saying the breakfast offering had been improved on West Midlands/Scotland Super Voyagers.

I've definately been offered and served "breakfast" (a microwaved roll) between Wolverhampton and Crewe on Super Voyagers, and would think you could get the "improved breakfast" if it's on your service as well in that time.

I travelled on the 07:17 Preston to Birmingham N St (06:58 ex Lancaster) as far as Wolves last week, and was only offered the usual rolls etc. I'm guessing the improved breakfast may only be available on services which run to/from Scotland? All northbound morning ones ex Birmingham do though, so that wouldn't be a problem.

I once got the 06:00 Preston to Euston Super Voyager, and was served & finished the improved breakfast well before Crewe, i think i was served it as we arrived at Warrington iirc. (Which suggests that it is possible to serve it quite quickly)

I know they don't tend to offer anything before Wolves, to stop pax on shorter/cheaper journeys getting anything.

I think one of the reasons is that the catering staff do not board until Wolverhampton, hence why theres nothing served beforehand.

Yeah, I was talking to a CSA based at Wolves a few months ago, who said that they sometimes start at New Street, sometimes just jump on at Wolves, depending on what their diagram says.

It's a "mini" pre-heated version of the full english breakfast, with bacon, sausage, potato? and tomato. (That's from the top of my head, from what i can remember from a few months ago)

It's a big improvement on a soggy bacon roll, but at the same time, it's still no where near as nice as the full english breakfast on a Pendo.

Full English on a Pendolino is excellent. I haven't been able to take a trip on one since last year though.

I definately agree HST Power, i'm not usually a fan of cooked breakfast, but i love the Pendo one. I usually ask for scrambled egg instead of fried, and think the scrambled egg alone is a very decent amount. I particularly like the fact that VT added a small black pudding to the breki, giving it a lovely finish.

There is plenty of time to serve you at least the basic options

You will most definitely be served all the options if you travel on a Voyager (on my last trip between Warrington and Crewe) I declined but was still offered a "takeaway" which I was then handed as I stood on the platform!

If you travel on a Pendolino it could be a struggle so it may be worth sitting in Coach J rather than Coach G to ensure you get your breakfast ordered before Stafford and served between Stafford and Crewe
