Apologies if this has already been mentioned but I was in Newcastle today and noticed that the Lounge is currently closed. The door is boarded up and a printed notice says the Lounge is closed due to a broken door. It gives no indication as to how long the closure will last.
Yes, RJ, I intend to let Scotrail know that I had a problem just to try and ensure that the problem will not occur again.
Just to say that over the years I've bought several ALRs and I find that very often the person checking the ticket on board are very friendly and interested in it and will...
I've just had a situation with a ScotRail conductor who has told me that my 14 day 1st class ALR (of which I'm on day 8) is not valid as I don't have a separate card with boxes to tick.
In all the years I've been buying ALRs, I've never heard of this. He examined the rover plus all the...
I sent this to Chiltern Customer Services not long after Business Zone was introduced:
RE: Business Zone. I know that the Business Zone found on some services is not the same as 1st class but, if I had a 1st class ticket valid on that route/service, would I still be charged the Supplement to sit...
In my experience in travelling on the West Midlands services mid to late evening, some crews come through with the drinks trolley out and back as they do during the day whereas others come and take your order and then bring it out on a tray. If the latter, I've always found no problem in...
Due to go south on Fort William sleeper this evening but the line is closed due to a landslide that has derailed a freight train somewhere south of here.
We've been told we can spend the night in our sleeper berths buy no news as to whether there will be buses to transport us south in the morning
[Mod note: Split from Official Meets thread.]
Just to say, I was standing on the top of the O2 on Tuesday (Up at The O2) and from it there was a great view of the Emirates Airline which was operating, presumably testing. It looks very high and well worth a visit
No problem, I travelled north on it Tuesday night and back south again tonight. Personally, I think you've just about got the best position in the carriage, one of the berths in the middle
G is definitely the 1st class carriage on the Fort William sleeper and it will say the lower berth but the upper berth will be folded away. I've also noticed when you book online that it says 1st class not available for the journey. Maybe that's referring to seated accommodation.
Didn't get the WAG express last night after all due to its being delayed somewhere before Shrewsbury. Instead, went on an extra train starting from Shrewsbury and then waited for the Virgin train at Chester. Pleased to say they served me a hot meal on there.
Anyway, an early start today and...
Yes, it was 1 drink in 2 hours. On the plus side, I've twice boarded Leeds to Kings Cross trains at Doncaster and been offered a cold drink straight after departure which have been sourced from the kitchen then another when the drinks trolley returns from the front later in the journey
I did have an East Coast evening meal last week of chicken and couscous which I enjoyed. Also, the Virgin chilli and, later in the week, chicken and leek pie were both filling. I used to enjoy Hull Trains meals when they had the 222s but thought the efforts on the 180s poor. Have they now...
I'm just completing the first week of a 1st class ALR and, as usual, it's been good fun but not helpful to my waistline due to the Virgin breakfasts! As others have said, A Travelodge can be a cheap and clean place to stay the night. Rugby Travelodge is in a brilliant location adjacent to the...
In reply to voyagerdude220,
no idea where the East Coast stock was from but it was certainly a set that had been used by them earlier that morning as it had weekend menu sheets on tables, copies of Saturday's Independent and quite a lot of uncleared rubbish!
The delay was at a red signal just...
Smooth changeover at Carstairs, and only a few minutes late. Lost time due to signal problems at Lockerbie. So, 34 minutes down at Carlisle. Now off down the S&C so should have some good views
Due to an earlier fatality in Leyland area, the set to operate the 12:52 has not arrived in Edinburgh. So, Virgin has chartered an East Coast set to take us to Carstairs where we will change on to the booked Voyager. It's northbound passengers will transfer on to the EC set.
A good effort by...
Yes, there are some good staff at Wolverhampton Travel Centre who are helpful when I buy an ALR or want a sleeper reservation in connection with that ticket. Most don't know how to do such a reservation but will pleasantly take the time to work out how to issue one or seek help to do it. The...
