"The North Of England Is Getting A Rough Deal" discussion

This is a work in progress but First Transpennine vetoed it on the grounds most of their services would run with a 'red' as in full.

    TPE 170's

What will the Todmorden Curve be opening with? Its launch has been delayed due to a lack of stock and its waiting for a Pacer. I sympathise with the Borders people but a 158 does seem a bit premium for such a small route. There are far more major routes in England running with Pacers e.g...

    Fife Circle

The loco hauled set you are describing is a Class 67 with 6 x Mark 2 coaches. It runs twice a day Monday to Friday. All other services are run with Class 158s or Class 170s. See below for a recording I did of the loco set and a 158 set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2WvHQi7ibI

    TPE 170's

The loco set is popular with users and has been fairly reliable. Taking any rolling stock out of the system should be discouraged. Why involve Northern in this? Scotrail should lose 9 x 158s to provide a like for like replacement in terms of numbers.

ScotRail 380s on North Clyde line

I may be wrong in saying this but for the next few weeks all North Berwick / Dunbar services are being run with 170s.

    TPE 170's

I heard on this forum a while back that Northern's franchise extension contains a clause that no stock can be lost for the remainder of the franchise regardless of what new stock arrives. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Scotrail would be the easiest place to obtain stock. The...

ScotRail 380s on North Clyde line

If they were to be used there on a permanent basis who would lose out? North Berwick / Dunbar? :(

    LM 350's on Glasgow Services

I am travelling from Bolton to Edinburgh via Wigan on Monday. Will it busy as far as Carlisle / Lockerbie?

    Chorley blockade

Logic indicates they must be in Chorley's passengers numbers are way down.

    Chorley blockade

The 07:16 Bolton to Chorley service ran today with the 3 x 150s. I am amazed they thought ahead and sent three units with end doors.

    Wigan to Liverpool electrification.

This has been discussed at length already. At the moment both routes have exactly the same journey time, comparing the time it takes for a unit to get from Ordsall Junction to Euxton Junction. This is despite fewer stops via Wigan (2 vs 1), higher speed limits (75 vs 90), faster accelerating...

How would you change the franchise system...?

Can someone outline the current concession model?

First Trans Pennine Manchester Airport to Hull

In Northern's franchise extension isn't there a clause that no stock can be lost for the duration of the current franchise. Why didn't Transpennine try for the same terms?

    TPE this afternoon.

As someone who used to be a frequent traveller between Bolton and Edinburgh, and is now forced to change at Wigan NW or Preston, the changes add on 30 mins on my journey and the poor reliability of the new 350s it just rubbing salt in to the wound for people in my situation. I personally found...

East Coast Franchise Short Listed Bidders

Couldn't they take it to the Supreme Court? They could overrule any High Court ruling i think. And then on to the EU courts?

    Pendolino Refurbishment/Modernisation

Why it is being retired? Could it not be deployed elsewhere. At the moment it annoys me to see double 221s running from Edinburgh to London. 400+ miles of running under the wires.

Salford Central - connection to Liverpool line?

There's this from Network Rail. Not exactly what you are looking for but still its interesting.

    Why are XC always late?

Also the rolling stock is better, 170s vs potentially a HST.

    Cross Border rail services (Wales)

Does this mean the Manchester to llandudno direct service will end when the new franchise starts?

    Construction progress: TPE 350/4

Really? In my experience of the via Wigan route is significantly quieter compared to the via Bolton route. I think Bolton and Chorley commuters would appreciate if all Scottish services call at Wigan North Western, I know most do but some peak time do not, more commuters need to be pushed off...
