Scotrail using ex Virgin Mark 2s?

Indeed, the Mark 2s should be subject to the rules that all stock used by Scotrail should be repainted in to the new livery.

Scotrail using ex Virgin Mark 2s?

Is there any central locking? Needs it or a member of staff has to be present in each carriage.

Scotrail using ex Virgin Mark 2s?

Found a better picture I took. Southbound service at Dunfermline Queen Margaret.

Scotrail using ex Virgin Mark 2s?

Terrible photo I know but it shows how bad condition the EWS Mark 2s are in. Chipped paintwork galore. Taken at Haymarket.

The increase in rail usage, nothing to do with privatisation ?

Population growth of certain areas has also been a factor. Also then number of stations that Network Rail have reopened could also be a reason.

Scotrail using ex Virgin Mark 2s?

Today whilst at Newcraighall station I saw an EWS Class 67 hauling six Mark 2 in ex Virgin livery (see second image). This service http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G62869/2014/05/02/advanced feeding in to this one http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G62201/2014/05/02/advanced. I know...

Class 43 (HST) trains post 2020.

Manchester Airport to Barrow-in-Furness? It would be justified between Manchester Airport and Lancaster and its unlikely the line to barrow will be electrified any time soon. The current services run with three to six 185 are having overcrowding issues now. So by 2020 it might be getting critical.

    Government announcements 29/4/14

Given that Leyland is currently terrible for the physically impaired this is excellent news. Loads of steps and no lifts. http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=20918

Class 170/3 cascade to Chiltern postponed/cancelled?

Good. However, the discussions in to more rolling stock for TPE and Northern should continue. The overcrowding continues to be frustrating as hell.

Expected changes to Northern & TPE with stock changes

I know they had some spare at the end of 2012 / start of 2013 and I had not seen any news that they had moved on so presumed they had put them in storage for now.

Expected changes to Northern & TPE with stock changes

What would the carriages be? I know Arriva has spare Mark 2s in storage.

Anti-HS2 animation narrated by John Bishop

Is the £8bn figure about money being taken from the existing rail budget true? If yes HS2 should be scrapped immediately with the £40bn+ spent modernising the existing network which will offer much greater value.

    TPE Record Time Run

We do not know if they will back or not yet. First Transpennine have started they would like to bring the services back via Bolton but I know their influence is limited. Keeping them via Wigan does stop them being commuter trains as Wigan to Manchester commuters are just using them now...

    TPE formally announce extra capacity

What's happening at Bolton and Chorley? Nothing, well nothing that repairs the damage anyway.

New Stateman article: North TPE trains are like distracted ponies

From May the new journey time will be one hour 28 mins with the Liverpool to Newcastle services. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G33812/2014/06/02/advanced

Rail usage continues to rise - but Merseyside lets the North West of England down

Another strong set of figures for Bolton, moving from 3.259mn to 3.583mn in a year. And yet some on this site think its fine for TPE's Scotland routes should stay away post-electrification when there is every increasing demand year after year.

Network Rail flagged issues with 319s in the North West in 2011

Even during off-peak times a six car 185 can easily be approaching full on a Blackpool North to Manchester Airport run. Why are even discussing anything smaller than six coaches? When the East Coast Class 225s become surplus why can't Transpennine routes make use of those. Only two / three...

    Virgin Trains Diverts

Given this would create extra capacity in the morning between Blackpool North and Wigan North Western is there scope for any Northern run Blackpool North to Liverpool services be short formed and any spare DMUs used for Bolton routes. Do they even run the full Blackpool to Liverpool route that...

    Virgin Trains Diverts

TP have made it clear they have no interest in restoring their half hourly Bolton service. A handful of the spare 185s could have been kept for a half hourly Chorley to Oxford Road stopper but they had no interest in such a service. It would be selfish if TPE blocked any attempt from Virgin...
