    New platforms at Edinburgh Waverley

Is there enough space for two platforms there? See the photo below, sorry for the poor quality but its the only one I have showing the taxi rank.

    Northern and TPE Consultation Document

Some stations near me would stand to gain big if that metric was used. Blackrod - 0.573mn in 12/13 currently served by 1tph in each direction. Bromley Cross - 0.381mn in 12/13 - currently served by 1tph in each direction for most of the day.

TfGM-website, timetable updates and general news concerning TfGM bus stations.

Oh right okay. I thought it was listing the future providers.

TfGM-website, timetable updates and general news concerning TfGM bus stations.

Is Arriva abandoning the 715 completely now then? I note it doesn't mention Arriva North West at all. Only South Lancs Travel and Wigan Coachways.

    Todmorden Curve

I am aware that most of Northern Rail routes are suffering from overcrowding but the routes through Bolton are at the front of the queue right now because we are still trying to get back to where we were before TPE Scotland's services ended. Even before last year overcrowding through Bolton was...

    Todmorden Curve

Does this mean Bolton can make use of both of the 'spare' DMUs that the 319s are displacing from December?

Northern to introduce evening peak restrictions

Northern has confirmed the over 60s TfGM travel pass is valid throughout the evening peak. This is gonna to stir up some resentment.

Observations as a conductor doing tickets..

Could it be an anger that the persistent fare dodger(s) aggressively ignore the conductor and sometimes get away with it, therefore the legitimate passenger(s) resents having to proof they are doing the right thing.

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

There's a lot of one-off factors right that skew the truth e.g. summer holidays, Chorley blockade. But speaking more generally, in my experience between Bolton and Manchester, in the peak all seats full and many many standing. Outside of the peak, all seats still full but with few standing. On...

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

This is incorrect. 6 car operation through Bolton happens seven days a week. Some Manchester Airport to Blackpool North are 6 cars themselves and some are three cars that join up with Barrow / Windermere services as far as Preston.

    Scotrail Franchise - Abellio

What is this mentality in Scotland that DMU stock must be good, if not excellent. In England the Borders Railway would be running with Pacers, no doubt about it. Please realise how lucky Scotrail is in terms of stock.

When will the remaining 170s lose their 'pinkish tints'?

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

You have clearly never met Northern XD They are like lets get a bit of everything :D

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

The air-con and refurbishing has been dropped until 2016 at the earliest. We will lucky if they are thoroughly cleaned before entering service.

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

14 can only just cover the routes going over to electric from December, even then its a push and because the Liverpool to Blackpool North can only run as far as Preston.

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

Do you mean so far announced or that is it? What about Hazel Grove to Preston, Stalybridge to Blackpool North and a whole host of other routes that will need EMUs in the next 2-3 years? :S

New North Wales to Manchester train services

No there is not. But it simply would not be in the shareholders' interest. The increase in revenue would not justify the cost of loco-hauled units. One of the greatest flaws in the franchise system, the passenger never comes first. Under some models the passenger occasionally comes first.

Alliance Rail (GNWR) gets Network Rail approval

If there are locations on the WCML that are close to bursting point why are small EMUs still allowed in the WCML? For example London Midland is allowed to use up slots but only provides 4-8 cars. These new six car Pendos will be taking up a slot where an 11 car Virgin service could in theory...

ScotRail 380s on North Clyde line

I hope for an updates 380 to become the new standard EMU for Scotland.
