    BBC Documentary 'The Railways'

Yes they can, It just depends on how high up the food chain they are. I'm a Civil Servant and the last work related trip I went on (Liverpool Lime St to Bham New St and back), my employer was v reluctant to pay the standard class £24 return fare on LM.

    Which Union?

When the PCS votes for strike action or action short of strike, as a Union member who always votes, I follow the decision of the majority.(Even if a minority of the membership bother to vote, but thats another argument for another day). I`m of this view as I have benefited from Union...

    Which Union?

I am Civil Servant of 24 years and on day one joined the Union. Never regretted it as I have needed their help 3 times : 1) 2001 I was off sick for 6 months with stress because of a manager 2) 2006 I was accused of sexual harassment (Gross Misconduct) - acquitted 3) 2008 I was guilty of...

    Transport Officer pulled me aside.

As part of my job I read letters all of the time from organisations needing assistance paying their taxes. The longer the letter the more bored I become and the harder it gets for me to absorb the info they are providing and for me to make a decision. If its a short punchy letter with all...

    Prosecuted and Fined

When you make the Statutory Declaration it restarts the whole prosecution process again. The TOC will then have to decide if they want to restart the prosecution.

Northern Rail - Non payment of Fare

What could prevent people buying season tickets is the cost and the fact that perhaps they dont have an employer like mine ( I`m a Civil Servant), who will provide me with an interest free loan (deducted monthly out of my salary) to buy my season ticket each year. (This year £1152 for an...

The most stupid question you have been asked

A couple of times @ Southport station, when I have been sitting on the first train out @ 5.38 am, I have been asked "Is this train to Liverpool ?". Which is a stupid question as : 1) I dont dress like I work for Merseyrail 2) When you walk onto the platforms @ Southport there is a huge...

can any other private companies bring a prosecution that could result in criminal con

Customs & Excise merged with Inland Revenue in 2005 to become HMRC. At that point all the Border Guards were hived off to form the UK Border Agency. HMRC dont prosecute anyone anymore after allegations of corruption and rank bad practice by C&E, all prosecutions are now authorised by...

    "ByeLaw Enforcement Officers" New?

They are from Carlisle Group, who have a partnership with Merseyrail to improve safety (on the cheap). As far as I am aware they have LESS powers than a PCSO, but dont realise it. In fact I dont know what powers they have (if any).

    Fake RPI

On Merseyrail, upto about a year ago, I used to get my ticket checked by the guard on a regular basis, on my Southport - Moorfields journey into work in the morning. Since then I have not been ticket checked once, perhaps they are relying on the Walrus cards to swipe in/out of the gateline ...

    Liverpool Central Re-opens

I used it for the first time last night, and have to say I was very impressed with how clean & bright it is AND safety - wise lots more space for passengers to stand without getting right to the platform edge. All in all I would say a great job has been done !

    What now..........

I have been doing the same job for the last 6 years, and I still ask questions at work. I see it as a sign of maturity that I still ask questions, its the fool who doesnt know what they are doing and carries on regardless hoping they get it right. I am sure you WILL succeed and the TOC see...
