Pacer today on the 1707 from Man Vic to E Port. Bus seats too. Joy. About 30 on leaving Vic.

    Class 799 hydrogen flex trains...

The process I recall was the Castner cell which used the electrolysis of brine to produce chlorine with a lot of hydrogen as a by product. Very energy intensive though. I don’t think there is an easy way to produce hydrogen.

How would you Rate your Local Station?

My local: Helsby Setting: Located in the village centre. View out towards Frodsham marshes overlooking the Growhow fertilizer plant and a wind farm. (5/10) Architecture: Pleasant Victorian buildings. Old ticket office and waiting room converted to a Beer Tap Room open Thursday to Sunday...

Popular traction - is this a thing? (and similar discussion)

70's kid so grew up with the diesels and a multitude of electric locos on the WCML. Our back garden backed on to the Mouldsworth to West Cheshire Junction line so I has 40's, 25's and 47's and others running past the end of the lawn hauling everything to and from Stanlow, UKF and Vauxhall cars...

    New Chester to Leeds service

We had an additional stop at Earlestown this morning on the 0729 from Helsby. An error I'm sure unless something timetablewise has changed. No-one got on or off as far as I could see.

I expect demand has been quite high today on the TFW service?

    New Chester to Leeds service

I've used this service trouble free the past two days, morning and evening on the EPort route. Seems to be a few more passengers each day. Word getting around perhaps. Both departures in the evening though have got stuck as far as Earlestown behind the Liverpool stopper. A bit annoying for a...

    New Chester to Leeds service

Very disappointed. The return trip to Ellesmere Port this evening was cancelled from Man Vic so an hour wait for the Chester service at 1807. Unavailable train crew. Class 158 2 car unit.

    New Chester to Leeds service

First time on it from Helsby to Man Victoria this morning. Very lightly loaded until NLW though even then it was hardly full. A very pleasant experience being on such a lightly loaded service though I am sure it will get busier. Class 156 two car unit.

    Newton-le-Willows

I could be wrong but isn't Newton classed as a major park and ride? There is a large (fee I believe) car park adjacent to the station facilitating commuters etc that couldn't have been constructed at Earlestown.

    New Chester to Leeds service

Hope it all settled down soon. I am planning to use the E Port to Vic services both ways as my commute once I return from my holidays.

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

Not sure, but I have picked up this picture off the Helsby Memories Facebook page with the last service from Liverpool to Chester on May 5th 1975 waiting at Runcorn.

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

All spaces gone after 0721 and that is with the single Manchester service with TFW, never mind the Liverpool and the Leeds services starting soon. Glad I am in walking distance.

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

It was extended by about 10 or so spaces on some land that was used by Network Rail as a site for the recent footbridge overhaul. No sign of a multi storey and with the local council about to start charging to use the car park at the top of Station Avenue it could get messy in the streets...

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

If you consider from Frodsham or Helsby it would cost you a fiver in petrol and a minimum of £3.80 for a return crossing on the new bridge, a £30 per week commute cost isn't bad at all.

Apologies. It is a summary of the new fares. Perhaps better if I post them to the Fares forum. All prices from Helsby. SDR £7.50. CDR £6.00 Single £5.90
