Air quality in stations if electrification curbed.

With the government looking to have lost faith in network rail and its electrification contractors I wonder if anyone has considered the air quality issue particularly NOx and micro particles of old diesel trains in some of the more cramped stations like new street or even in tunnels. K

    Train for scenic lines

Came across this Japan train on you tube showing how it should be done. https://youtu.be/eHZxhSu6fVs View out the front, rotating Sears some in pairs to direction of travel, huge windows and most of all some legroom. Can't see it happening here sadly with all our "can't do people". Perhaps...

    Northerns 150's allocation

All northern 150's are show as allocated to Neville Hill (NH) but many seem to be based elsewhere. Do other depots have a regular complement (list?) or do they all return to NH at some point? K

Time to get new trains earning money.

My local airline jet2 took delivery of a a brand new Boeing 737 last Thursday and I hear it will be carrying its first passengers this Wednesday. That's less than a week of prep. Bit of a contrast to the railway then where timescales seem to be months or even years between leaving the...

    Refurbishment or redecoration!!

I'm old enough to remember when BR's DMUs were given a mid-life refurbishment which, as well including new interiors (redecoration), all wearing mechanical components were replaced and various enhancements were made to improve ride, heaters and reliability. Northern's first refurbished 158...

    Imported trains currency fluctuations.

With the brexit vote big reduction of the buying power of sterling I wonder who picks up the tab for potentially more expensive imports. Could be the manufacturer, ROSco or most likely the TOC. All those CAF trains ordered by northern potentialy cost 10% - 20% more K

    Rail cross sections

I'm not sure what rail is used in the US compared with here but I note the new emd F125 4700bhp 125mph 4 axle passenger loco has an axle loading of around 32tonnes. This is considerably more than our 67s which are looked on as heavy for a bo bo. K

    Wheelchairs and trains

With modern buses incorporating integral ramps often powered is rail with its cumbersome fold up models lagging behind. It also begs the question as to arrangements at unmanned stations particularly with more doo on the horizon. K

Trains for our scenic lines how japan does it

May be of interest see the hybrid dmu particularly the rotating seats at http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/vod/japanrailway/20150612.html. With our knees up to your chin plank like seats, small windows, no front view anymore and noisy engjnes I can't help thinking we have a very long way to go...

    Leyland classes 155 153

With all this talk of Pacer replacement not much talk about the 153/5s which are simmilarly constructed to the rust afflicted 142s. I don't think I'm alone in preffering a faster quieter light and airey 144 to a noisey knees under the chin 155. Kev
