Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

And where does the Horsham to London service turn round. Many of us quite like getting a train to Farringdon every 10/20 minutes, so London Bridge doesn’t work.

Full Brighton Mainline Closure - 13th July 2025

I'd assume the power is switched off in the Purley area to ensure safe working. Can't run Caterham or Tattenham services without power Not sure why trains cannot go south from Redhill, but apparently GWR are only running between Redhill and Reading that Sunday so must be something else...

Full Brighton Mainline Closure - 13th July 2025

According to the Stakeholder briefing they are replacing a crossing at Stoats Nest and need to close line for whole day. Currently to quote GTR "trains running through the area are subject to speed restrictions because of the need to repair this part of the track."

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

Had the pleasure of travelling on it on 1V36 GTW to RDG from Redhill last Thursday - the comfy seats were very pleasant.

Brighton & Hove / Metrobus Discussion

They fuel for a whole week in one go? That's some mileage between fuelling if so.

Brighton & Hove / Metrobus Discussion

I was out and about on Sunday and the 430/435 and 100 were also not Hydrogen. Seems the whole Hydrogen fleet was in the depot on Sunday. Software update perhaps?

What’s more efficient: overhead or 3rd rail electrification?

Issues happen with all conductors or wiring systems. As someone who regularly uses Third rail services from London to Redhill, I find it significantly more likely to have services cancelled due to a fault North of London as the wires have come down than to have it attributed to a conductor issue...

Actual 377 and 387 Cascades (GN, SN, SE)

Yesterday passed two 377s they have been parked in the sidings at Haywards Heath, went past too fast to get numbers but could they be 377/1 for SE being stored until transfer or are they there for some other reason?

    Potential changes to Thameslink services?

That 1 hour 10 mins already includes stops at Merstham, Coulsdon South, Redhill and Horley. However, that time already includes timing breaks to allow extra calls at Earlswood and Salfords when the 9R (Three Bridges - Bedford) services are withdrawn. In any case you should look at the East...

    Potential changes to Thameslink services?

Why do you want to add the 12-15 minute penalty for going via Redhill onto Bognor Passengers and why do you want Redhill passengers to have to stand all the way into London for a good portion of the day which happened when the Arun Valley services called at Redhill. Good way to cut passenger...

Might GTR abolish their "Gatwick Express" brand?

GTR will not be able to abolish the Gatwick Express as it is not in their right to remove it. It is run as a separate service because the DfT mandate it as such in GTR's management contract. Which in turn is due to DfT's separate agreements with Gatwick Airport. The Airport see the GatEx as a...

Brighton & Hove / Metrobus Discussion

According to the bid it's for route 7 1744120057 Assuming I have the right documents; West Sussex and Surrey put in a joint bid for various Metrobus routes operated from Crawley for Hydrogen buses. Routes 21, 22, 23, 61, 200, 270, 271, 272, 273, 281, 291 and 400 - 43 buses according to the bid...

Stations most frequently closed due to flooding

Earlswood platform 2 underpass floods regularly as does the foot underpass under the railway.

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

What I meant is that there is no facility to turn a Northbound Train south of the Core except at London Bridge, which GTR are very reluctant to do. This means if there is a problem along a route North or South of the Core, almost no trains run on that route run south of the core. The expectation...

North Downs Line upgarde works - some questions

There will be local replacement buses from Guildford to Redhill for connection to Gatwick on Thameslink services. GWR always do a direct bus from Guildford to Gatwick, but other parts of the line are not deemed important enough to keep the Gatwick direct connection.

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

It seems that GTR have no processes or plans for turning trains on any route early. So, a fault anywhere from Cambridge to Brighton will cancel all services on that route. Locally to Redhill it is the same for Peterborough to Horsham services south of London, and even worse with Bedford to...

North Downs Line timetable improvement suggestions

How do you know very little Revenue? Currently no-one in their right mind uses public transport from Dorking, Reigate or Redhill to go to either of the two theatres in Guildford, or G-Live or the various music venues and clubs. Why would they as there is no train home. The Venues lose out more...

North Downs Line timetable improvement suggestions

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/may-2025-timetable-change-confirmed-changes-only.278309/ Good news for local passengers too, However, it leaves the oddness of 2O96, 22:36 from Reading still terminating at Shalford, leaving the 2-hour gap in service from...
