    Dual gauge in Ukraine.

Press reports today cite the massive difficulties in transshipping grain at the Ukraine/Poland or Ukraine/Romania border. Now I guess that regauging one’s rail network in the middle of a war is not a priority but is it physically possible to dual gauge 1435/1520mm track?

    Any Belgian Station ticket

It's a couple of years since I travelled to Leuven from London but at that time a Eurostar ticket was good for onward trvael to/from any Belgian station. Is that still the case or do I now need to buy an "Any Belgian Station ticket" from Eurostar or rebook in Brussels?

    Off peak - by company?

i understand that different TOCs have different off-peak periods. When attempting to check the validity of an already purchased off-peak ticket on-line, the TOC (LNER) referred me to the NR planner which was not working. Is there a guide listing all companies and their off-peak periods?

    Double-deck trains

A correspondent in today's Daily Telegraph, referring to the Bullied 4DD stock suggests that with dropped floor and sliding doors this could be an option worth revisiting. Given Britain's low height restrictions and high platforms I'm still trying to figure out how this would work.

    Victoria (TV programme)

In the penultimate episode of ITV 1's "Victoria" the young queen is seen riding in an open coach behind Manchester MOSI's "Planet" locomotive. Is there any evidence whatsoever of such an episode and where was the sequence, in open countryside filmed? The castle scenes were filmed at Raby...

    Newark Castle and totems.

The refurbished Newark Castle station features the Maroon totems of the former London Midland region of BR. Did Newark Castle ever sport Maroon totems? Though at one time Midland and thus LMS, surely it was in Eastern Region and had Dark Blue signage in earlier BR days? Incidentally, was the...

    Northern off-peak conundrum

Using the transpennine website to choose which trains I wished to use, I have bought tickets for use on two Northern services, viz. 08.15 HUD - SYB and 16.41 SYB - HUD on the same weekday. Now it occurs to me that both of these trains appear to the lay reader to be "Peak Time" but the tickets...

Weymouth idling trains leave 'horrendous smell'

BBC (bless them) are reporting on GW trains idling at Weymouth: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-3655708 In a world where my car engine dies if I pause for a couple of seconds, why would GW want to leave their engines idling, or is this necessary for 'hotel power' for the a/c...

Apologies if this has been covered before but can someone clarify the advice given in 7.2? I want to travel from Wolverhampton to Marsden. National Rail give the preferred routing as "TRANSFER" between Piccadilly and Victoria. I'd rather not walk so how do I get a ticket which includes the...

    Manchester - Preston via Wigan

As the electric Manchester - Scotland TPE services go via Wigan NW I'd expect a Manchester - Preston to be valid that way as well as via Bolton. Is a change from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan NW also valid? Bear in mind a smattering of Victoria services actually terminate at Wigan NW.
