    Tpws speed settings

None of ours are published. The only way you find out is by tripping them. However, some seem set a bit strangely slow IMHO but I tend to think of them as a bit of a crude one size fits all sort of safety device. As said, if it's set at 75mph then going at 74.9mph won't set it off... I...

    The GTR talent pool.

Was speaking to one of our managers the other day who said they're starting managers interview for the new 'south eastern' thameslink depots this week so sure there will be many more positions coming up, though obviously ones out Kent way!

    St Pancras - Pau (France)

Thank you for your replies guys! Sorry its taken so long to get back to this thread. A crazy week... I shall digest the information now! Sounds like a good place to visit.:D

    The GTR talent pool.

I'd do the interview, see if you get offered it then make your decision. Nothing to lose and if its ages away just stick with the TOC that have given you a start date. You don't need to tell them! Unless that is the original TOC works far better than GTR, in which case bin off GTR.

    St Pancras - Pau (France)

Afternoon all. Around September i am thinking of taking a trip to Pau in south France to visit some friends. I'm trying to work out the best/cheapest way of doing this. I am rail staff so need to get some FIP vouchers ordered (I have a valid FIP card already) though I seem to think these can't...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Nowhere near. My depot (TL side) is training drivers in to next year so I should think the others have plenty still waiting. I understand on the GN side traction conversion courses havent even started yet as the people who will be doing the training are currently snowed under with testing the...

    in cab facing cameras

I just don't see the benefit with this. But we already have front facing cameras, pantograph cameras etc on new stock so maybe it's coming.

Passenger accident at Hayes & Harlington station Report

Not where I work it isn't (depending on the incident obviously).

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

When they were testing the units there was a problem with the DOO camera image being washed out by the BIL lights at night (they're very very bright!) and basically you couldn't see to dispatch the train. I understand these were an after market add on so that now you can. Comical. :lol...

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

I fully agree. Which makes me wonder whether steam really has any place on the mainline anymore? I know there are extra restrictions place on steam running on Network Rail routes but with such an increased risk it seems foolhardy. Again I fully agree. I feel the sentence is appropriate. I'm...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

The running rails are pretty slippy here. Full power on AC in an Electrostar causes wheelslip so in a 700 it would just be silly to open it up fully. Also if you open them up too quick they cut power to zero and you have to start again. No need to do it really. I'll be taking them very easy...

Class 319 Meets Thomas The Tank Engine

We can only hope that they haven't.

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

It's a much better train than an Electrostar. At every level. Loads more room inside and once passengers get used to it I think theyll like them more. Far nicer to drive than an Electrostar too. Better build quality etc etc. I do fear they'll be many a software issue creeping up over the next...

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

A factor, yes. But he still knew what he was doing and I understand the report confirms that he worked for a 'regular' freight firm at the same time (can't remember which one) so he would definitely have been aware of what he should and shouldn't be doing from that company, even with WCRC slack...

    'Interesting' Thameslink customer service attitude

Another classic being at St Pancras LL where the Luton Airport passengers pile on a Luton stopper instead of the Bedord semi-fast four minutes behind. I used to make a PA to explain that the following train was considerably quicker for the airport but don't bother now. It causes too much...

    Why is LHCS unfavourable nowadays?

Slow, tired Class 319s accerlerate quicker than HST's. This I know, so I think it's fair statement to say multiple units are quicker to accelerate in general. The Class 700's are made up of 2 x 4 car (or 6 car) bolted together but they still only have one transformer per half unit. That said...

Class 319 Meets Thomas The Tank Engine

We didn't when they were on TL. They were all pre-selected. And a lot of the messages were disabled anyway. Maybe Northern have been feeling mischievous...

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

No idea if a court can but Network Rail can so I doubt it would ever get as far as a court. We had a driver who had a couple of serious incidents within maybe four or five months of each other and NR terminated his licence. Nothing the company could do to keep him driving so he is now in another...

Trainee Driver Vacancies Bristol - How often?

As tiptoptaff says, relocation would be required. It's dog eat dog out there for drivers jobs - why recruit someone who lives miles away when there is someone just as good on your door step and who is more likely to stick around and not leave once they're qualified.

WCRC banned from running trains on the mainline from 18th Feb 2016 now rescinded

And of course, one should remember that train drivers have enormous responsibility. It's drilled in to us from day 1 (in fact even before when you're doing the applications!!!). He acted beyond irresponsibly, he acted criminally. He knew what he was doing and I would really struggle to accept he...
