Well, i've been rejected as a qualified. Interestingly they sent me an email a couple of weeks back saying they weren't taking on qualifieds until later on this year, though by this point I had seen the actual advert saying they were so had applied!
To be quite honest - I don't know why! Obviously 15mph in makes sense but why going out I don't get it?! And why just for dead end platforms? Anyway that's what we've been told. So at Brighton, Blackfriars (P3/4) and London Bridge for me, it's that long crawl out...
319s would be highly unlikely to be run with 50% of motors isolated (ie one unit of a two unit 8 car with no traction power) so I think you were probably in the wrong trailer. Also if one unit really was isolated it would have been so slow you would have been getting later and later.
It...
Doubt it. How long are the platforms at Paddington - 12 cars? As far as I am aware TOCs stipulate a speed of no more 15mph leaving dead end platforms (TL, Southern, GN, SE all do anyway ). I'd be surprised if he got 40mph or even tried to. They are quick though.
What is the shortest turn around in the WTT? More real world...
Presumably it can't be much less than 3 or 4 minutes as immobile/mobilise times are normally a minute or two on diagrams (yes I know it can be done quicker but the questions is the shortest turn around time a train can be given)...
Taking a very early Sprinter on a long journey oop north as a young child in the mid to late 80's. What with their fancy "electric" toilet doors...
I'm beginning to wonder if some of the longer delays in getting doors open is related to my colleagues confidence and familiarity to resolve an issue when there is one. Anecdotally i've noticed that the younger more recently recruited drivers seem to be suffering less failures/problems with 700s...
Fire!
The high powered aircon is designed to suck the smoke outside to ventilate the train. Without the big gap round the 1st class doors it can't ventilate the air from that part of the train.
Hahaha you don't need to convince me of the reasons why - i'm well aware of those.
But personally I would rather it wasn't advertised as a train in the first place, though it probably says bus replacement on the site. If it never runs (which seems to be the case) then I can't see how it is a...
Have to disagree with you there. I can't see it's in contravention of any social media policy. No-one is bad mouthing their employer and the information is already shared in the public domain. I can't see how it's any different to the "are there any Virgin West Coast drivers who know if...blah...
I used this service back in 2001 and very handy it was too! I didn't realise it's now a bus. How can that be allowed on this sort of long term temporary (basically permanent) basis?! If it's never going to run then surely shouldn't be listed as a service.
As mentioned obviously engineering...
As above really, we've always been told no driving after the 11th hour and maximum of a 12hr shift. We would only drive longer under exceptional circumstances. And as a suburban TOC, there's unlikely to be anything exceptional where we cant get relief or leave our stock somewhere.
I'd always understood the 75mph statement to be an urban myth. Ultimately it works by timing how long the train takes to cover the distance between the arming and trigger loop. I can't see why by moving these further away from a signal and adjusting the trigger speed as required would no have...
I would suggest your best bet is keeping an eye/searching the NR careers page. I think you can request to be notified about jobs via email though i'm not familiar with the site so couldn't say for definite.
Any signalling jobs would be listed here.
There just isn't the drive/need though. As mentioned a lot of cost involved and for what benefit? A couplf of minutes shaved off a journey here and there?
While I don't know the areas you mention, it's normally better to improve areas where you have the minimum permissible speeds (say a 15 mph...
I wonder if this is a safety based default if the unit thinks you've stopped short (but is happening because it loses GPS and doesn't know where it is). It does actually show on the LCD when it has lost GPS but it's not this causing the problem but instead the default to 'No Journey' for some...
I've not had the wrong PIS code since working on TL though we can't get our codes to work on Southern stock when we do the Brighton - London Bridge services. In fact the codes often don't work on the Electrostars either on that route but never had a problem elsewhere.
Today's diagram saw me...
A few facts here, dear sir:
The PIS has to be set up on 700s. We can't negate to set it up because we are "feeling lazy". The train won't move without it. However, several of the units (in fact pretty much all the ones i've driven) have many a software issue and one of the things that is...
Drove my first morning peak service today (done plenty at the other end of the day) and was genuinely impressed while viewing the monitors of how quickly the platform is emptied of awaiting punters by these 700s. So much quicker than 319s/377s.
Blink and you can miss hundreds of well drilled...
