Yesterday CPKC and CN trains in Cananda came to a halt, when a deadline for an agreement with unions passed. Both companies issued lock-out notices to workers. Services were already reduced over the last few days in anticipation of a possible shutdown. Shipments of perishable goods and hazardous...
Due to wild fires VIA Rail has suspended the western section of the Canadian until Augst 2nd

The city of Jasper was badly hit by the fires (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cyj423n2jdgo)
In 2020 an overhead wire maintenance train (aka TVT or DB class 711.1) caught fire. This resulted in its breaks failing and it rolled along the Schwarzwaldbahn for 20 kilometers. Two attempts to stop it using brake shoes did not work. It was stopped in the end by directing (and derailing it) in...
A train broke down on the Colgone-Frankfurt highspeed line yesterday. So far all attempts to get it moving again have failed. The break down resuls in single tracking for parts of the line, cancellation of services and detours using the old Rhine valley line. The latter adds at least an hour of...

When the LGV Est towards Metz/Strasbourg went into service, announcements were made for a while when the train had reached "son vitesse commerciale de 320 km/h". Apart from that, I cannot recall anything simular.

Hello,
last automn I spent a few weeks in Eastern Canada to enjoy the Indian Summer. I went to Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Toronto, but also into rural Quebec and the Charlevoix region. As I did the whole trip by rail (and bus), a took some rail-related pictures :-).

The membership of the train drivers union GDL has voted for strikes. After two one day strikes in the last few weeks, multi-day strikes are likely from Jan 8. The union leader had stated recently that no strike will take place until Jan 7.
Strikes should/will be announced 48 hours in advance.
The Riedbahn (Line Frankfurt-Biblis-Mannheim) will be closed for three weeks beginning of January. DB is doing preparatory work ahead of the 6 month closure that will take place later this year (when the line will be given a complete makeover). As the aternate routes (via Heidelberg/Darmstadt or...

SNCF is already selling tickets for some direct services to Germany. Yesterday, I managed to catch a 39€ fare for Karlruhe-Paris at the beginning of January. (I wanted to register a sales notification and was positively surprises that the train I intended to use was already open for booking).
In an earlier press release (that I cannot find anymore) the SBB noted two major obstacles to divert freight trains along the old route
loading gauge in the old tunnel is smaller, thus limiting which trains could be diverted
only one path per hour and direction available during daytime. These...
No need to rebook (even if a local train along you route is cancelled). Just take another train. If you want to be on the safe side pack a printout of thr email.
Usually, it suffices to tell the staff you are on their train, because train X was cancelled. If this was somewhere in the vicinity...
