Traffic permitting, it's a bit easier to mobilise units to stations and track around London by road than some of the rail network.

I also wonder if even LUL has enough staff to cope with what the railway network is? There are no overhead wires to bring down either. And of course there's then the fact that a lot of the network is underground and should be fairly safe, flooding excepted.

Surely Network Rail have emergency response teams too - but they're probably spread quite thin and might have to drive a lot further from incident to incident?

Incident response around London for any operator is a nightmare - as frequently recorded in the incident logs (e.g Mobile Operations Manager delayed by heavy road traffic enroute to xxxxx), - sure the tube is 60%+ underground but almost all depots are in the leafy suburbs , but good effort to be fair. NR (as Baldrick can practically confirm) has flying teams to deal with S&T , overhead line and other issues - but to say they will be overwhelmed today is an understatement. Many of these incidents will need cross technical teams once the PW have cleared the wood and clay / chalk and so on. This is where prioritisation comes in. TOC staff at depots will be checking pantograph wells amongst other things for tree debris - which can really cause problems. A lot of hard work going on out there as we speak. 3 deaths so far - 1 of a motorist. Mate had a brick wall down on his residential road - no injuries thank God - in that case, - I think there were 13 deaths in 1987.

Half term has reduced the local road traffic impact , fortunately.

I did not think that even this particular person who would try to make political capital out of a situation where the weather can cause landslides and over 50 trees (at least, most probably more) to be blocking railway lines and roads.

Perhaps he will organise some form of industrial action to teach the weather a lesson...:roll:

I think these days, it's not a surprise to see comments like this at all.

Reading their Twitter feed and some of the statements they have linked to, it's a disgrace. Just when you thought he couldn't make himself look any more of a fool.

Grrr why couldn't Southern have tweeted that information or put it on their website. Mind you if there is a train blocking the line at Oxted I guess I should be pleased they didn't!

the Southern Twitter is currently reporting that the East Grinstead line is blocked at Lingfield so East Grinstead train is turning round at Hurst Green.

Heard on the radio a few minutes ago that sadly two people have died due to falling trees. While not directly related to the railway it should put things into perspective for some people why the railway took the decision it did.

I've heard that the GEML is open but only being used by freight with passenger services being suspended.

I get mine from a mixture. I follow a lot of rail staff on Twitter and I have a few friends on Facebook who are also rail staff. The TOCs seem to be pushing out a lot of info too on Twitter so that's where I imagine he got that info from.

I've heard that the GEML is open but only being used by freight with passenger services being suspended.

The GEML was initially open to all freight providing none contained any dangerous goods. Then after multiple trippings in multiple areas it was closed to AC freight. A little while later a complete ban of all freight was imposed, but that still left some services already on the network.

Port of Felixstowe recorded wind speeds in excess of 90mph though that wouln't have been at ground level.

What you do is join the railway as front line staff, they then give you a Blackberry which beeps night and day. I was off for a week and came back to 786 messages.

I see the 11.08 was the first to run north on the Guildford New Line [via Cobham]. Currently running 2 minutes late and they are stating that this delay is to to poor weather conditions.

Many a time has the trains on that line been 2 minutes late or more without any reason given. Good to see that the information is getting out there.

Interestingly NRE Web Site live departure boards doesn't appear to be working but the NRE app is. That must be due to more people accessing the NRE Web Site than those who use the app.

I get a fair amount of e-mail at work from automated systems but not quite that many. Far from it.

FCC are hoping to run a service between Bedford and Luton, but not confirmed as of yet.

Greater Anglia reporting they are running no services today and are advising customers not to travel (although XC are running between Cambridge, Ely and Peterborough). Overhead wire damage at 5 different locations on their network apparently due to trees falling on the line.

Someone on here had been moaning about Southern not showing ticket office closures online, so now along with all the delays issues, we are now getting info on every ticket office on the southern network closing early (or to go for a pee). In the last few weeks its gone up by 30% plus.

Anway, slight update. Gatwick Express now also calling at East croydon.
