A service is also running from Brighton - Portsmouth. Have heard that no Southern services will run to/from Southampton today too.

Southern WLL trains will be suspended for the rest of the day. East Grinstead trains will run as 12 coaches for the rest of the day.
Brighton Mainline services appear to be getting delayed in the Earlswood area too.

Latest from the MML is that the trees on the line at St Albans and Radlett are now sorted, there are a couple more to deal with near Elstree.
The big job is where UK power Network power lines have come down at Napsbury ( 2 miles south of St Albans), which has damaged the OLE on 3 of the 4 lines. So a fair bit of work there. I would hope that will be fixed by tomorrow.
WCML is open throughout, but plenty of cancellations and delays.

Where are they trying to get to ?
Bit silly staying there if its South London they are trying to get to as tube and buses are running as normal !!
If this is true, and that Tocs are suspending services and merely claiming back the cost of the cancellations from Network Rail, then I agree that this is something that definitely needs publicising.
The storm is affecting Northern France as well. Trains were completely halted for a while but are now running again.

Presumably Comrade Crow will note that storms affect the nationalised railway in France in the same was as they affect the privatised railway in the UK.

Except it isnt true, it was because of the amount of damage the network was due to sustain - and it certainly did sustain it.
Obviously Bob isnt happy that Network Rail didnt allow trains to keep running in order to let a train crash into a tree as then he would have had a field day.
he was trying to get home to Uckfield. Seems like he had to wait a few hours until late morning
Other than the depot,. which is clear of any trees, the Victoria Line is entirely underground.
But with the relatively compact nature of their network LU have been much more able to quickly remove debris on open air tracks and get things running again.

All lines were running a good service from start of traffic until about 6.30am. There have been short suspensions and periods of delays on all lines except for the Victoria line and Waterloo/City line, but all routes have largely been running, except for the prolonged closure to the District & Piccadilly lines west of Acton Tn.

Yeah, I actually arrived early at work this morning. Bus to Brixton ran normally and the Victoria and Northern Lines all ran like clockwork. This was before 7am though before things took a turn for the worse and before rush hour. It'll probably be a different story going home tonight and if the trains are still bad, my bus routes home will be chocker. It maybe a walk home for me.
Whilst I am fortunate in that if conditions meant I was unable to get to work I would probably be granted one day's special leave by my employer [and if I was not, then I could afford to take unpaid leave], not everyone is so lucky to be in that position, and for some people they need to go into work.
Of course we in the Uk over reacted and everywhere else would just shake it off as a little wind.

In the Netherlands the Haarlem-Amsterdam railway has been disrupted and trains on the line are packed with commuters, the news website De Telegraaf reports.
Looks just as nasty over there:

Spot on! It's not only the trains thats been affected. I am sat in an office (which I eventually got into) in Whitehall looking at the broken jib of a crane dangling off the front of the Cabinet Office..... strange old thing is that the road is closed and trafiic is being diverted!
This is, sadly, what I fear too. Bob appears to be the type of person who would simply want to get more ammunition.
From what has been posted on here, it's pretty obvious that the railway industry has been 'on this' for days and taken everything very seriously - and all rail staff have been mucking in to try and keep things going even though Mother Nature so easily got to ruin things by dropping trees on tracks and bringing down lines. Trees that are likely quite often on private property and therefore can't be removed.
I wonder if ASLEF will make a statement?
I accept that some people need the money, and some staff might be too scared to simply stay home - but unless you're working for a rather shady company, you are protected in law.
I am sure the BBC did a piece on employment law during the days of snow.
