If Britain had 200 mph wind speed the whole country would be at a standstill. Britain is just not organised well enough to cope. Not only would the railways cease to function but also most of the road system would be blocked, there would be no electricity consequently water supply and sewage disposal also paralyzed because both are pumped using electric motors. There would be no food supply because that comes by road, so total national disaster would ensue.
People who survived the catastrophic effects of the wind would then die of thirst and hunger, hospitals could not function so anybody in theatre would die as would the majority of patients.
I suggest we should all contribute to the Philippines Relief Fund. I speak regularly to Filipino people because they are the ones who operate the computer rescue services. Many are experts in this field, indeed some are talented Classical musicians like the pianist Cecille Licad.
They are vulnerable, educated and civilised folk just like us and now need our help very badly.
