Here we board the 13:30 Johnson Transport service 22F to North Roe, at Isbister, arriving at 14:30 Wednesday afternoon.
We are at the very northern tip of the Shetland mainland. Here, at this part of Northmavine, next to a farm, the road stops. We celebrate with some Tunnock's Caramel Wafers before setting up our camping equipment and tents in a field.

We enjoy the rest of our day exploring Northmavine by foot. This extraordinary part of Britain has hills, inlets, coasts and sheep. We head north from North Roe and find a beach at Sandvoe to explore, as well enjoying installing our own little bijou lodging at North Roe. The night sky is fabulous and the sheep are out in force.

The next morning, we awaken and cook ourselves breakfast before packing up our stuff - it's impressive how we manage to take so much with us on so many public transport modes - and boarding Johnson Transport's route 22F bus service to see the Mavis Grind near Brae. It's Thursday morning now - a bright, crisp affair - and we arrive at the Mavis Grind at 07:56 to marvel at the narrow isthmus of land before us - and to throw a stone from the North Sea to the Atlantic.

According to NorthLink's official timetable, this sailing leaves Lerwick at 17:00, so check-in time is 16:30. :)
It's because it goes via Orkney.

The 500 seems to only once run on a Saturday, so I think we'll have to wait until the 1621 ScotRail service 1Y48 to Dalmuir, arriving there at 2103 on Saturday evening.
