Is there a person I can speak to in HR there who can clarify if I can apply again. I passed all the assessments in Aug but didn't get through the DM interview. I have been told by one person I can reapply and then got an automated mail the other day saying I can't reapply for six months. Am very confused!
Thanks for any help.

As far as I was aware you cannot reapply until 6 months has passed. I was given miss information saying that I would only sit an interview and I was made to sit the whole process again.

Try HR but I'm sure it's a waiting game

I am still awaiting the result of my application for this. Hopefully if the courses are starting in January then perhaps it should not be long before the sucessful candidates are contacted by Southern.

Any one heard from Southern? I rang up and was told that they are still going through the initial screening stage and that they have a lot of applicants to process..

I haven't heard anything either. Not too concerned yet. I'm sure someone will post as soon as they get an invite.

Having just gone through the process successfully and started my induction this week I'd say Southern have a pretty good & efficient HR team so just be patient they'll be in touch asap.

My application was unsuccessful. Got an email this morning, so I guess those that are ok should hear sometime very soon?

Good luck.

Had an unsuccessful email aswell even though I've passed all my assessments. Strange

Same. It's either because they didn't like my context specific answers or someone was right when they said they don't like people who apply from outside catchment areas. I live in NE Essex for example.

Had the thanks but no thanks e-mail today aswell, no idea why I didn't get in but like someone said this company are strict on their 1 hour commute rule and I live in Norfolk so maybe that's why?? On a brighter note I've passed the application stage with FGW even though I only applied on Monday! I'd advise people to get their applications in if they haven't already they have been very efficient so far and so I'm told they are looking to recruit in a big way!

It's now 30 minutes from the depot so unless you openly and actively prove your relocating they won't take the chance

I haven't heard anything from Southern despite applying the next day of the start of the recruitment campaign.

I have had a look on my account today on Southerns career page which states that my application for the trainee train driver is unsucessful. I noticed today that I hada missed call on my mobile from an unknown number so I wonder if perhaps Southern tried to phone me this lunchtime.

Anyway my other applications are still active so even if one of my applications is unsucessful I hope one of my applications will have better luck.

Sorry to hear that mate. I think you just happened to live too far away. I would like to see more bus drivers get on the trains - the percentage that want to drive trains that actually get the job is too low :(

Totally random but couldn't be bothered to start a whole new thread. If someone fails the ICOC / ICA whatever it is called with a TOC is that it, you can't be a train driver, or can you apply with a different TOC and start all over again? Nothing to do with me, I just wondered as I have never seen it mentioned.

Ps. Sorry to all those who were unsuccessful. Keep trying. :)

I'm pleased to say having just started with Southern as a trainee I am one of the few that's managed to make the the leap from bus driver to trainee driver.

I applied not long after the opening date. Extremely happy to say I've checked my online application and have been accepted to do the assessment day. Really looking forward to a change of career!

I didn't put mine in until the day before closing date. My online status has changed aswell to 'invite to assessment centre'. Chuffed but realise that there is still a way to go.

Having just gone through the process I'd definitely say stay positive as it can get you down and your mind starts twisting things and as VicPaul says make sure you look smart appearance wise but also do your homework before and during the process the assessors will help you through the process as much as they can but you have to put the effort in yourself and be seen to be doing that. Most importantly enjoy it and good luck.

Just a quick question. Don't worry, I wont be asking question after question of how it all works. I just wanted to know, on your assessment, did they do the bourdon test and was it paper based or on the pc? I'd like to get some practice in, and want to give myself the best chance of passing.

Many thanks
