Just a quick question. Don't worry, I wont be asking question after question of how it all works. I just wanted to know, on your assessment, did they do the bourdon test and was it paper based or on the pc? I'd like to get some practice in, and want to give myself the best chance of passing.

Many thanks

This I'm sure wont be indicative of everyone, but when I took the Group Bourdon assessment for Southern, it was paper-based. I had previously spent many hours practicing on the online computerised tool - but (it now transpires) this provided sufficient preparation for the paper version which I'd not dabbled with until the actual day of assessment.

Good luck mate.

I sat my first stage assessments with FGW earlier this year so didn't sit it with Southern but talking to guys who were at the assessment day I was at it was paper based as it was with FGW. I'm not sure on the new assessments as I got through literally just before they were introduced so they are a mystery to me I'm afraid.

No date yet, just a change of status online. I'm assuming that the date will come in the post with some practise material.

No date as of yet. Just the status change as above.

You'll find that Southern tend mainly contact you by phone and follow the phone call up with an email. The practice materials will probably be emailed to you also.

I'll be keeping my phone close at all times then! Not had any postal correspondence so will give it another week and ring HR to find out the dates and info

I've had an e-mail for 16th December. I've already passed assessment 1 and have assessment 2 very soon with another TOC so I'm not sure how that will work out. I've e-mailed them to let them know so we'll see. From worrying about when and how many trainee positions might be advertised, there's a sudden deluge of TOCs advertising.

I live within walking distance to them so perhaps that's why I've been accepted / got a date so quickly? Good luck everyone.

Maybe as you have already passed assessment 1, they have fastracked you onto the second stage. I'll wait until monday afternoon and if nothing arrives i'll call on tuesday to find out how things are progressing along

Yeah every now and again they have a glitch which temporarily blocks access. I did read on the page somewhere that they are changing/upgrading the application pages. So perhaps it is something to do with that?

I got an email yesterday with practice materials and an assessment date of 6th January. No phone call that I'm aware of.

So keep an eye on your email!

Starting to feel left out here chaps. I've had nothing!! Haha

Same here. Getting paranoid about the contact details on my Southern account; even though I checked them several times before they started implementing the website changes.

The system has all been updated/upgraded. Has a better interface for mobile users. Worryingly though, it no longer recognises my account!

It appears you now need to re-register on the new system. But, it hasn't transferred my application across so now I have no idea what's going on. I sent an email to recruitment@southernrailway.com which gives an out of office reply, stating the old system is no longer in use, and to re-register. I can't find a number for the head office/HR department either which is quite disconcerting.

Anyone else have any updates?

I'm still in the dark too.
Before the website was upgraded my status was 'invite to assessment centre'.
Yesterday the Southern website had a message saying that existing account holders would be contacted in the next couple of weeks which with instructions.
Which really doesn't help us. I doubt if having the right telephone number would help today either; they're probably fire fighting at present.

Guys I have been told to register on the new southern recruitment site and then Southern will move your existing application on to the new system(however this could be a couple of days). I am still waiting for my email invite as well but have registered my details on the new site.

Ok panic mode over haha

I did speak to HR. They said as above, to re register an account. They are processing everyone. And if you did have the status to be invited, it will happen in due course. You will be contacted via email when your assessment date becomes available. They also will eventually transfer your details over to the new system soon

From what was told to me. The application pages will get updated after the assessment day.

On another note, my email arrived earlier with the details and practice papers :)

Still not heard anything :(
No emails No account update on the the new system..

I too had heard nothing. My application status was 'invite to assessment centre. ' before the website overhaul. Everyone else seemed to be getting invites by email and I thought my application was lost.

However. I've now been sent this email; which I am taking as a positive as I only registered on the 'new improved website' five days ago.

Dear Candidate

*

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

*

Thank you for your email.* We will be re-launching our new recruitment website from 2nd December 2013, which will be easier to use and provide a better applicant experience.* Please note you will be unable to access the current system from 29th November 2013 therefore, you will need to re register under the new site using the following link www.southernrailwaycareers.com to progress your application or to view current vacancies.

*

Following on from your recent assessment, we would like to progress your application onto the next stage of the recruitment process.

*

To enable us to do this, you will need to register your details at our new and improved website:* https://www.southernrailwaycareers.com/templates/Southern_Railway/job_list.aspx

*

Once you have completed this we will transfer your application over into the new site and progress your application further. Please allow 7 days for your details to be transferred over from your date of registration.

*

Kind Regards

*

I am guessing that others have had their application moved to the new site without having received any emails regarding assessment centre dates??

yes have had my application moved over to the new format as well. Just surprised that I have still not received the call up for the assessment as I applied for the position as soon as, it was advertised.

Application has been moved across to new system. The new system also gives a little insight into the details of the application such as an applicant rating number and reasons for any status change. Quite like it, a lot more straightforward!
