Jubilee class 6P5F 45637 'Windward Islands' (scrapped)

Princess Royal class 8P 46202 'Princess Anne' (scrapped)

Princess Coronation class 46242 'City of Glasgow' (subsequently rebuilt)

(Fowler class 4MT 2-6-4T 42389 was indirectly involved as it was hauling the Tring-Euston local service which was run into by 46242 hauling the Perth-Euston overnight express....but it was undamaged).

I think that boiler was at Moorswater,but it’s not that. Here’s a close up of this feature.

Well ,I fear we have come to as stand here so I’ll give the answer. The picture shows a feature called the Apple and Pear. These were two sandstone nodules unearthed during the excavation of one of the Anne’s Park Tunnels in Bristol. Brunel had them mounted on what became the site of St Anne’s Park station which closed in 1970. It was saved and donated to Bristol University and can currently be found displayed on a roadside in Bristol.

Gaza, greatly in the news at present, has not been meaningfully rail-served for a very long time. In what were in some respects happier days, long ago (one is looking at the greater part of a century ago): what was the southernmost end of the longest essentially continuous rail journey that one could make in those times; if starting from Haydarpasa, Asian side of the Bosphorus from Istanbul, and going essentially southward, passing through Gaza en route? (This "through" journey would feature minor "hiccups" involving break of gauge, and getting across the Suez Canal.)
