It is part of the Henbury Spur group of stations: Ashbury Down, Henbury, North Filton. There was discussion about them commencing at post 76 in this thread.

Although Ashley Down is on the main line, there are no suggestions as to how it could be served, I recall there was a discussion about this recently somewhere on the forum.

Regarding inclusion in the list, I refer you to paragraphs two to five in post 1.
As of today, Ashley Down now has planning permission, see https://pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-ap...s.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=QVERYKDNMMN00

Barking Riverside - potential opening date amended to Monday 18 July. Realtime Trains shows passenger services from this date.

Monday 18 July:
Barking Riverside opened,
Beaulieu Park planning permission granted,
Skelmersdale removed from list following rejection of funding bid. It may re-appear in some form or other, in which case it can always be added back in.

Will the now-approved plan for a station in Cheadle (Greater Manchester) be built on the site of the long-closed railway station? If on a new site, where will it be situated?
Yes, it wil be on the site of Cheadle (LNW) station closed on 1st January 1917.

A fair point. But even if 10% transferred to rail it would still make Faslane one of the busiest stations on the whl!

BTW, if you look on twitter, eg @AlexHynes you will find links to recent pictures showing the uncovering of Levenmouth station during vegetation clearance.
Hello everybody,

Sorry for joining and bumping an old post - however this is a topic of interest for me as my parents live near the old Shandon Station site.

Unfortunately it seems the plans for new 'pop-up' stations at Shandon (for Faslane) and Rhu have been abandoned due to the conflict with existing public transport. There is a bus service (316) that links to Helensburgh and, I suspect, the local taxis drivers lobbied against it given the lucrative trade they must make moving Service personnel between the Helensburgh Central terminus and the Naval Base. I think it is disappointing though. Whilst the old Shandon site is probably not ideal (its up a hill and someway from the base entrances), a new station near the A814/B72 roundabout would put the station just 100 metres from the main entrance to the base. It would take literally dozens of buses off the road that come in from central Glasgow and through Dumbarton.

Have you information that the proposal has been abandoned?
The last I heard was it would be at the new location you suggested, and would have no public access, only for authorised personnel.
It wouldn't eliminate the fleet of coaches because I assume they are taking civilian employees (there are thousands I believe ) to and from a wide area of Glasgow, but I dare say some will be living close to a railway station on the route into Glasgow.

It was reported in the local rag - the Helensburgh Advertiser - a few months back. No real detail given other than saying it conflicted with other public transport and that local support was "lukewarm" (although I think that was more in relation to one at nearby Rhu). Some of the buses into the base stop at Dumbarton, very near both of the stations there, so the train could have swept up that market.

Sorry for the delay replying, I have been struggling to find a copy of the news article on the abandonment of the new Shandon/Faslane Station. Best I can find is this:

Scroll down to the bottom where it says: "...z new rail halt at Garelochhead to serve HM Naval Base Clyde - would "place too much recurring revenue costs on the council".

Thanks. As I read it, all H&L projects have been removed from the Council's bid.
I think that, as a dedicated MOD facility, any station would and should be financed by Westminster. I suppose the revenue risk would be if they had to subsidise the bus along the same route but I don't know how many at the base use the public bus rather than the hired coaches.

That will be clever, that's a Sunday and the central section doesn't currently on Sundays.
Yes, but the future isn't "currently". From that date, RRT shows services from Abbey Wood running all the way to Heathrow, Maidenhead and Reading, and from Shenfield running through to Paddington (although interestingly, it still shows Bond Street as non-stop until December).

You may be right. Last I heard was that Sunday services were suspended until December, but I can now see some running in November.

Correction re Bond Street.

The press releases say:
Bond Street station, at the heart of London's West End, to open ahead of next phase in November.
I refuse to accept the mistake as mine - it's what their tweet said!

For the avoidance of doubt:
-Bond Street opens 'by November' (quote Andy Byford in an internal email)
-Extended M-S hours from 5th September
-Sunday opening and through running from 6th November

According to RAIL today, "Golborne (Wigan) should open at the end of 2025". That sounds fairly certain!

Cardiff Bay / The Flourish - it is now proposed to rebuild this station at its present location so is not a 'new station' as such. For this reason I have deleted it from #1. For the record the approved proposals are for a two platform station and full details can be found on the Cardiff Council planning application website under the reference: PRAP/22/00032/MJR. Specifically the next to last document referenced TRAN01-KAW-R5-BAY-DDR-R-TR-000001-S3-A01.
Anticipated 'opening' date is Spring 2024.

Loudoun Square - associated with the above and details under the same reference.

Elland - minor correction to the date the planning application was submitted (July 2021 instead of September). The application remains under consideration.

I see New Civil Engineer has an article today on the line to Levenmouth. Do these count as new or not?

“The Levenmouth area is one of the last parts of [populated] Scotland that is poorly connected from a transport perspective,” says Network Rail senior sponsor Martin McKinlay.

Access to the railway has been an issue for generations living in this area of Fife on the east coast of Scotland after passenger services to local stations were withdrawn more than half a century ago.

Transport Scotland’s £116.6M Levenmouth Rail Link Project aims to change that by reinstating the railway line connecting the seaside town of Leven with Thornton Junction which dates back to 1854. Thornton Junction is part of the existing rail network on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen route, so this connection will make travelling around Fife and to other parts of Scotland easier for Levenmouth residents.

After the withdrawal of passenger services in 1969 due to sweeping line closures the original route was converted to single track and used solely for freight. The line has been abandoned for the last 20 years apart from two trains which ran the first mile every week between 2012 and 2015 to serve an open cast coal terminal.

Reinstating the 9.5km line was put on the table in 2019, after the Levenmouth Sustainable Transport study – carried out by Transport Scotland in collaboration with Fife Council – concluded that it is a way to improve accessibility and drive modal shift.

Network Rail worked with its supply chain to develop a business case which highlighted the positive socio-economic outcomes improved connectivity with Edinburgh could provide. It also sought ways to reduce the cost of delivering the project.

I have re-ordered the table at #1 as:
2023 and beyond (dated) and;
2023 and beyond (less certainty).

Individual stations are shown by speculated opening date and then alphabetically.

There are some dates in there which really aren't going to be met but there is no public statement to that effect.

Update:
Brent Cross West shows a pubic service (but grey text rather than black in RTT) from Sunday 11 December - ie does not say 'service stop unadvertised'.
Inverness Airport shows a public service from Sunday 11 December.
Portway Park and Ride, currently showing as 'service stop unadvertised' shows a public service from Sunday 11 December.

Headbolt Lane is 'HBL'
Thanet Parkway is 'THP'
East Linton is 'ELT'
White Rose is 'WRO'

Thank you for the update. A very helpful resource.

Should Devizes Gateway be added to the list as the study is now being funded under the "Restoring Your Railway" fund (alongside e.g. Haxby, which is on the list here)?

Apologies if I have misinterpreted the criteria...!
