In case anyone has missed it, Crossrail aka The Elizabeth Line opened today, except for Bond Street which is delayed.

Not sure if this is the right thread. According to an item in Rail #958 p. 30, a competition is being run for local residents to decide between the names Hazelwell, Stirchley and Pineapple Road, and between Moseley and Moseley Village. Kings Heath is confirmed.

The opening date for Barking Riverside has been brought forward from Autumn to Summer. Real Time Trains has 'unadvertised' services from Saturday 9 July onwards. As discussed in the thread for that station.

Somewhat out of the loop at present, has the official station name now been given to Portway station and is there any more hard and fast opening information date now than just "Summer 2022"?
A corporate communication out today (with reference to National Rail Contract award) specifically states "will provide services to Portway Park & Ride ... when new £4m station opens later this year".

Reading Green Park has had 'service stop unadvertised' for quite a while now. It doesn't seem to indicate anything is necessarily imminent, just that the timetable planners are on the ball. When the Heraus fences disappear, and a team of people with clipboards and tape measures jump off a train, scrutinising everything, then it's time to start getting excited.
For what it's worth, this Reading council page states opening in 'summer 2022'. The page contains images from March 2022 so it's not too out of date. Don't start holding your breath yet!

Previous news was "The station is now expected to open sometime between April to June 2022, a Network Rail spokesman said" It's still June, just.

As the council think, (according to the linked bumph), they’ve paid for “2,150m of platforms”, perhaps they’re still arguing… :D

:D All shown off proudly in the “breathtaking aerial footage” complete with suitable music.

The video clearly shows it being served by IETs. I suspect someone in the Council may be very disappointed in seeing a class 165 on the opening day …

A bit longer and you'll be able to walk to Reading along the platforms :D

As a previous resident of Kings Heath in Birmingham, I am interested in knowing the locations of the new stations on the Camp Hill line. I see from the pinned post at the start that Planning permission has been granted so there is probably a site somewhere with a map. can anyone here point me towards it please?

I've found this for the station at Kings Heath: "The new station, which will be based on the existing Camp Hill line at Alcester Road opposite the junction with Valentine Road"

I've yet to find anything for the other two stations.

Thank you. I had assumed that was the planned location but was wondering where the entrance would be as there are a lot of buildings on the site of the old station now compared with when I lived there in 1972.

Hopefully, someone will know where we can see the planning application.

Does this help?:
Moseley station will be located on the site of its historic counterpart between Woodbridge Road and St Mary’s Row. Access will be from St Mary’s Row - opposite the M&S.
(from https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/new-moseley-railway-station-plans-23967972). Images show it right outside a tunnel.

Update: I think the planning applications you want are 2019/08129/PA, 2020/03676/PA and 2019/08019/PA, search on https://eplanning.birmingham.gov.uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/GeneralSearch.aspx

Wixams Station now appears to be back on track. From what I can work out it's fully funded and just awaiting local authority planning (re-)permission as the previous 2012 permission has now elapsed (as funding wasn't in place)

Suggests start of construction in 2023 and operational from 2024.
Reading the material linked to, Bedford Council seem to have found £26m down the back of the sofa, to top up the original £13.4m. Nice one!
A separate planning application was approved for a railway station in 2012. However, the permission was not implemented and subsequently lapsed. When Network Rail were unable to deliver the station in partnership with the developer, Bedford Borough Council took on the role as project sponsor and with S106 funding of £13.4 m already allocated, is investing an additional £26m to help ensure the station, car park and supporting infrastructure can be delivered.

From the article:

The Green Park Station scheme was granted approval by the Berkshire Local Transport body in November 2014 with £9.15 million funded through Thames Valley Berkshire LEP’s Local Growth Fund.

A further £5.6 million has come from s106 developer contributions. In July 2017 the Department for Transport announced a further £2.3 million of funding to ensure the station keeps pace with demand expected from proposed major new developments in the area. In November 2019 the Council secured an additional £2.477 million from the Government’s New Stations Fund, and £550 thousand from Thames Valley Berkshire LEP’s (Local Enterprise Partnership) Local Growth Fund, for Green Park Station bringing the overall budget for Green Park to £20.077 million. The project received additional funding of £1.25 million from GWR and £2.015 million from Network Rail in March 2022.

Gosh, that seems a lot for such a basic building.

I agree. I presume it includes all the design fees, car park etc.

Nevertheless, whole secondary schools (including parking etc) get built for the same sum.
But not usually with a live railway running through the middle of them!

It also presumably includes the compensation to train operators when the line has needed to be closed, which isn't something a Secondary School would need to consider.

Might even include the cost of adjusting a timetable to suit the additional call.
Will probably include the cost of the consultants establishing that an additional call is viable, but not the actual timetable amendment itself (mainly as that's nigh on impossible to quantify as an item in a general timetable change).

5 July:

Date amended for Reading Green Park - now just 2022, press release linked in previous posts has some detail but nothing more specific than 'by the end of this year'.
Stations names for Hazelwell and Moseley updated following a public vote - now Pineapple Road and Moseley Village respectively.
