I'm not going to waste my time. Ultimately, nobody will take a blind bit of notice of the 'result' so let the anti HS2 brigade have their victory?

When I saw it saying £50-100bn, I knew it was clearly set up by those who are against it.. so what's the point? If it did go the other way, I suspect it would be deleted quick smart.

It's why I haven't bothered either. It's irrelevant in the scheme of things. But sometimes, I love to see them not getting these silly polls all their own way...

Just for fun I voted yes and the page didn't update with 5 yeses. Perhaps they only pull tweet stats now and again. What happens if I then vote no? How about voting yes twice and no once?

With such small figures for yes and no the poll is meaningless. They need a proper YouGov or similar polling company to poll thousands.

There are many lines I'd love to see built as soon as possible but they are not happening as soon as possible. Some are only part of multiple proposals put forward for lines. So there is no harm in debating HS2, if debated fairly.

Like I said, these polls are a waste of time & the anti #hs2 mob put a lot of effort into packing every one they come across (or start). It's just sometimes I wish pro rail people would make the same effort - just to beat them at their own game for once.

Campaigners have lost the latest legal challenge over the HS2 high-speed rail link linking Birmingham with London.

The challenge was to the legality of directions introduced by the government for the section of the route between the capital and the West Midlands.

The HS2 Action Alliance (HS2AA) and Hillingdon Council in west London argued that the directions were fatally flawed and should be quashed.

Mr Justice Lindblom, sitting at London’s High Court, dismissed all grounds of the claim.

David Elvin QC, appearing for HS2AA and Hillingdon, said the Transport Secretary Patrick McLaughlin had issued “safeguarding directions” to protect land wanted for the project until development consent was obtained from Parliament.

The aim of the directions was to keep a close watch on local planning applications and stop any construction work that could could interfere with the project.

But the consequences were a “blight” for local people and businesses.

Mr Elvin argued that there had been an unlawful failure to undertake strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and “land extending beyond the route of the proposed line” had been included in the scope of the directions without any assessment of alternative options.

Mr Elvin submitted: “The effect of this is to blight development in the land covered by the direction for an indefinite period and without an SEA which might have enabled the impacts to be minimised or avoided.

“Therefore a quashing order is appropriate.”

But Mr Justice Lindblom dismissed the challenge, saying: “This is not the first claim for judicial review in which the Government’s promotion of HS2 has been challenged. And it may not be the last.”

Unless you are being delibrately misleading (although technically correct) I think you need to read your link again!

That YouGov poll has Against HS2 at 48% vs Support for HS2 at 30% and the Don't knows at 22%.

Notably in that poll, more Labour voters are against HS2 than the Tories. Of Labour supporters, 51% oppose HS2, whilst 31% support it. Of the Tories, 47% oppose HS2, whilst 37% support it. Only the Lib Dem supporters are pro HS2 overall in this poll with 34% opposing HS2 and 46% supporting it.

Didnt stop the usual Conservative faces alongside Frank Dobson trying to stop it and complaining they prefered the S alignment or wanted it to start in the North and come to London 'later' i.e. not at all.

There will be some major additional provisions coming soon to the Bill with the redesign of Euston station that some MPs will certainly be worked up about

Maybe the trains should have fold-out wings and take off before the Chilterns and land somewhere near Heathrow, thus giving that Heathrow connection people want and avoiding the Chilterns completely.

HS2 funding referendum bill second reading currently been debated in parliament, the idea being to have a referendum on HS2. Only 12 mps in the commons so nothing will be passed (it requires 40 to pass legislation).

The bill was withdrawn due to lack of support.

A good summary of events. It's as if joe rukin needs to keep making noise or people will realize the campaign is over and he will be out of a job. For the MPs I guess it's making noise as part of their re election campaigns.
