ScotRail want to get rid of the HSTs due to criticism of their crashworthiness. GWR want to do the same and with 221s becoming available and Laira know them, the HSTs days are numbered.

So they should be able to get 13 into traffic now, rising to 14 once the Wabtec work is complete. It's not clear why Wabtec need to do corrosion repair now: that should have been done when they got the sliding doors, so either it wasn't in the scope (GWR screw up) or it's warranty work (Wabtec screw up).
It's warranty work. Trailers spending a few months in service only to have water pouring in through the roofs and rust streaks down the sides.

Somebody is paying for this largesse, and it ain't GWR.

Certainly the ScotRail fleet is well below the originally planned utilisation. Both have mitigating circumstances where either the TOC has not had the fleet for that long (ScotRail) or they are not long transferred to a different depot (LNER sets to Neville Hill). What's Laira's excuse?
Laira's 'excuse' is that it's battling to put trains which are past their sell-by date onto diagrams they're simply not designed for.

Crashworthiness is not why GWR wish to get rid of their sets - the eye-watering cost of running them is the principal reason.

Not only as outlined above, but using 221s on the services currently operated by HSTs would be utter madness. They’re full thirsty at the best of times.

As for “Laira knowing them”, they only do stabling work on them. The Voyager maintenance is still very much carried out by Alstom at Central Rivers. It’s the same argument as to why ScotRail won’t be magically taking the 222s (which keeps cropping up nearly every week at the moment and isn’t for this thread).

Anyway, this is all starting to wonder into another HST discussion, and not the purpose of the potentially to be created 150/9 fleet.

5 car units will not fit in clear of the platform starter signal at the bay platform at St Erth. The recent extension means that a 4 car (2x2) class 150 is now fully platformed whereas the St Ives end crew door was not previously.

Simply not true, a 4 car 150 fitted easily before with much room to spare, as I'd said up thread, I worked on the St Ives branch with a 5 car in 2004 and it fitted fine at St Erth in the bay.

This video is shot from a 4 car 150 before the platform alterations on the Bay

According to an Article by Rail Advent they seem to think that St Ives will see 5 cars from May does that mean we will see these 150/9s then? Not sure how true this is but would be good to see the extra capacity so soon.

It’s the NR press release from last Monday copied word for word, so it’s going to be as true as any NR statement…

I still wonder where they are going to get the extra 150s from; although today 2 x 2 car 158 are down here. 158760 working with 150249 on Paignton-Exmouth and 158749 working Okehampton.

Was a bad day yesterday for 150 availability at Exeter with 2+4 HST working a trip between St David's and Paignton. Where they got it from I don't know? Maybe they are making up a 159 for St Ives

I take it back 17/20 150s operating today that's without a unit for Okehampton.
